qualitymotoroilcertifiedto meetor exceedU.S.automobile manufac-
turer'srequirements forserviceclassification ofa minimum levelSF
or SG (higher letterratings areacceptable suchas SJ, SL andSM
grades). M otoroil willdisplay thisdesignation on thecontainer.

Changeengineoil after thefirst five to eight hoursof operation,
and everyfifty hoursor every seasonthereafter. C hangeoil every
twentyfive hourswhenoperatingengineunder heavyload or in
high temperatures.
To Drain Oil
Used oil is a hazardouswasteproduct.Disposeof usedoil properly
IDo not discardwith householdwaste.Checkwith yourlocalauthori-
[tiesor SearsServiceCenterfor safedisposal/recycling facilities.
Beforetippingengineor equipmentto drainoil, drain fuel fromtank by
runningengineuntilfuel tank isempty.
Usedmotoroilmaycauseskincancerifrepeatedly leftincontact w ith
theskinforprolonged periods. A lthough this isunlikely unlessyouhandle
lusedoil on a dailybasis,it isstilladvisable tothoroughly washyourhands
[withsoapand water as soonas possible afterhandling usedoil.
1.
Drainthe fuel fromthe tank by runningthe engineuntilthe fuel
tank is empty. Be surefuelfill cap is secure.
2.
With engine OFFbut still warm,disconnectsparkplug wireand
keep it awayfrom sparkplug.
3.
Removeoil drainend cap locatedat the baseof the engine,and
drain oil intoan appropriatereceptacle. S ee Figure25.

Replaceand tightenthe oil drain end cap.
5.
Whenengine isdrainedof all oil, placeenginelevel. Refillwith
approximately 20 oz. of fresh oil. Fillto FULLline on dipstick.
Donot overfill.Referto CheckEngineOil in this SERVICE&
MAINTENANCE section.
6.
Replacespark plugwire beforestarting.
LUBRICATION
After every 10operatinghours,oil or greasethe lubricationpoints.Use
clean lubricating oil (#30 weight motoroil is suitable)and cleangeneral
purposegrease(greasecontaininga metal lubricantis preferred,if
available).
Removethe tinesand cleanthe tineshaft. Use a file or sandpa-
per to gently removeany rust, burrsor roughspots(especially
aroundthe holesin the shaft).Applygreaseto the endsof the
shaft beforeinstalling thetines.
Removethe beltcover and lubricateall the pivotpoints and
linkageswith a lightcoat of oil. Keepthe belts freeof lubrication.
The chaincase is pre-lubricated and sealedat thefactory and
requiresno maintenance.
HARDWARE
Checkfor looseor missinghardwareafter every 10 operatinghours
and tightenor replace-- as needed-- beforereusingthe tiller. Be
sureto checkthe screwsunderneath the tiller hoodthat securethe
transmissioncoverand the DepthRegulatorLeverto the transmission.
