Assembly
Before operating
your machine,
carefully read and understand all
safety, controlsand operating instruc-
tions in this Manual, the separate
Engine Owner's Manual, and on the
decalson the machine.
Failure to follow these instructions can
resultin seriouspersonalinjury.
INTRODUCTION
ThisSectioncovers unboxingand assem-
bling your new mower. Pleasecarefully
readall the instructionsbeforeyou
attempt to assemblethe mower. After
you finish assemblingthe mower,read
Section1: Safety,Section3: Featuresand
Controls,and Section 4: Operation,before
usingthe mower.
INSPECTION
Inspectthe mower immediately after
delivery. Makesure that neitherthe
carton nor the contents havebeen
damaged.
If you find or suspect any damage,
contact the carrier (trucking company)
right away. Inform them of the specific
damageand that you wish to file a claim.
To protectyour rights, be sureto putthis
in writing to the carrier within 15 days
after your machinearrives. Thecarrier
will let you know howto proceedwith
your claim.

within the container.

ASSEMBLING NEWUNITS
The mowerbladeis sharpand cancause
serious personalinjury, when working
near the mower blade, wear heavy
leather glovesto protestyourself from
the sharpedges.
IMPORTANT: T he mower is shipped
without motor oil inthe enginecrankcase.
Add motor oil to the engine before
starting. Followinstructions i nthis
Section.
Step 1: UnpackMower
1. Themower comesfully assembled
with the handlebarsfoldedcompactly f or
shipment.Removethe mower fromthe
shipping container.
2. Thecontrolbails (P, Figure2-6) are
securedto the handlebar(Q) with a cable
tie. Cut the cabletie off and removethe
protective packing material,
3. Follow steps2 through 8 to complete
mowerassembly.
Step 2: UnfoldHandlebarAssembly
1. Loosenthe two lowerhandlebar
adjustment knobs (1, Figure2-5),
2. Carefullyunfold lower section ofthe
handlebarassembly (2, Figure2-5).
Watchthe cableswhile unfoldingand
make surethat they do not pinch, kink, or
over-stretchwhile unfolding.
3. Tighten the two lower handlebar
adjustment knobsjust enoughto allow
the two handlebarstruts (H, Figure2-3)
to move in and out slightly.
4. Insert thetab (F, Figure2-3) on each
handlebarstrut into the slot (G) one each
side of thedeck. Becertain to routethe
cablesinsidethe left sidestrut as shown
in Figure2-4.
5. Tightenbothlowerhandlebaradjust-
ment knobssecurely.
6. Loosenthe two upper handlebar
adjustment knobs (3, Figure2-5).
7. Unfoldthe upper handlebarassembly
(4, Figure2-5) and align with the lower
handlebarassembly. Be sure notto
pinch, kink, or over-stretchthe cables
while unfolding.
8, Tightenbothupper handlebaradjust-
ment knobssecurely.
9. Checkthe starter rope,Make sure
that it doesnot catch underthe top
handlebaradjustment knob (I, Figure
2-6). Thestarter rope should stretch
unobstructedto the engine.
