Tine Operation Check; To Remove Belt Guard - Craftsman 917.292380 Owner's Manual

NAR.ROW TILLING 10-1/4" PATH
• Remove outer tines.
Inner Tines Only
NARROW CULTIVATING - 12-1/2" PATH
• Remove inner tines.
• Assemble holes "A" in tine hubs to holes
"C" in tine shaft.

EDGING - 9-5/8" PATH
• Remove inner tines.
• Assemble holes "A" in tine hubs to holes
"D" in tine shaft.
NOTE: Additional tine arrangements can
be attained by moving outer tines to oppo-
site side of tiller which will point tines out-
ward. Always keep sharp edges of tines
rotating forward from above.
TINE OPERATION CHECK
Be sure tines do not rotate when engine is
running and tine control is in the "OFF'
_sition.
CAUTION: Disconnect spark plug wire
from spark plug to prevent starting while
checking tine operation.
FINAL CHECK "OFF" POSITION
• With tine control "OFF" (up), push down
on handle to raise tines off the ground,
• Slowly pull recoil starter handle while
observing tines. Tines should not
rotate.
• If tines rotate, place loop of idler spring
in a lower link of chain and retest.
FINAL CHECK "ON" POSITION
• With tine control "ON" (held down t_
handle) push down on handle to raise
tines off the ground.
• Slowly pull recoil starter handle while
observing tines. "13nes should rotate for-
ward,
• If tines do not rotate, place loop of idler
spring in a higher link of chain and
retest.
NOTE: If "ON" position check required
adjustment, recheck "OFF" position adjust-
ment to insure tines do not rotate when
control is "OFF" (up).

TO REMOVE BELT GUARD
• Remove screw from side of belt guard.
• Loosen (do not remove) tine shield nut
on underside of tine shield.
• Pull belt guard out and away from unit.
• Replace belt guard by reversing above
procedure. Be sure slot in bottom of belt
guard is under head of tine shield bolt
and all nuts are tightened securely.
