WINDIAG allows you to select the communication port to test.
Depending on the type of network (RS-232 or RS-485) and the port in
Test
question, a special loop-back plug is required:
 Port 1 - RS-232 uses a 9-pin female D-type loop-back plug (see
Figure 5-10).
 Port 2 - RS-232 use loop-back wires (see Figure 5-10).
 Port 3 - RS-232 use loop-back wires (see Figure 5-11).

Tests
COM2, and COM3. The External loop-back tests
require the use of a loop-back plug.
Checks DIs and DOs on the Process I/O board.
Checks the Ethernet port.
Checks the optional display/keypad hardware.
