Using OpenType® fonts
InDesign unlocks the full potential of OpenType fonts with support for multilingual and alternate
glyphs. InDesign can set type in Cyrillic, Greek, Arabic, and other double-byte alphabets supported
by OpenType. It also automatically inserts alternate glyphs, including oldstyle numbers, fractions,
ligatures, and swashes. You can work with OpenType settings using the OpenType command in
the Character or Control palette menu, or you can save OpenType settings with character and
paragraph styles.
The Story Editor
Like PageMaker, InDesign CS2 includes a Story Editor (Edit > Edit In Story Editor) for editing
text in a word processing environment, which lets you focus on content without worrying about
the layout. The Story Editor in InDesign CS2 closely resembles the Story Editor in PageMaker—
it includes a style name column that displays the names of paragraph styles applied to text and
flows text in one continuous column without interruptions for page or column breaks.
You can type and edit text in InDesign CS2 in either Layout view or the Story Editor, just as you
can in PageMaker. In addition, InDesign CS2 lets you view hidden characters such as tabs and
paragraph returns, perform Find/Change operations, and check spelling in either Layout view or
the Story Editor.
The Story Editor (Edit > Edit In Story Editor) provides a word processing environment for working with text.
