5.5 Repair of M-4I60 Printer Mechanism

This section provides information which allows you to repair and replace defective components of the M-
4160 printer mechanism. Table 5-8, 5-9, and 5-10 contain various symptoms and the corresponding
causes listed in order of possibility. Find the symptom in the table and troubleshoot the problem as
instructed.

Cause
Cleaner lever and
CR are interfering
with each other.
Cam select
assembly or cam
change lever in
the CR unit is

cleaner lever of the
pump unit.
The tube is
disconnected from
the cap.
Ink drain tube is
bent or damaged.
The cap is
damaged.
The pump unit is

Head unit is

Foreign objects
are lodged in the
CR mechanism.
CR motor is

The timing belt is
damaged or
dislocated.
CR motor driven
pulley is damaged.
Checkpoint
Check if the lock of the
cleaner lever is released
when the CR is on the paper
feeding side.
Check if it's normally
operating by performing
cleaning and paper
load/eject through the control
panel
operation.
Check if the resistance of the
motor coil is as follows;
10
10 % at 25 ••
(Refer to Table 5-1.)
Check if the tube is properly
led.
Check if the tube is securely
installed.
Check if the tubes in the
pump unit and under the cap
are deformed or damaged.
Check if the cap is damaged. Replace the pump unit.
Rotate the pump unit
manually and check if it
rotates with the constant
resistance, or check if it is
damaged.
Check if signals are
transferred to the head unit.
Check visually if foreign
objects are lodged.
Check if the resistance of the
motor coil is as follows;
5 •} 7% at 25•• per
phase
(Refer to Table 5-1.)
Check if the timing belt is at
the specified position in the
CR unit.
Check if the timing belt is
deformed or some teeth are
worn or broke off.
Check if the some teeth of
the pulley are missing.
Solution
Push the lever down
manually to clear out the
CR path.
Replace the cam select
assembly or cam change
lever in the CR unit.
Replace the PF motor.
Place the tube properly.
Install the tube securely.
Replace the pump unit.
Replace the pump unit.
Replace the head unit.
Remove the foreign
objects.
Replace the CR unit.
Reinstall the timing belt
properly.
Replace the timing belt.
Replace the CR motor.
