Precautions New Discs As a protective measure to prevent the CD from jamming, the CD player will automati- cally eject discs with irregular surfaces or inserted incorrectly. When a new disc is inserted into the player and ejected after initial loading, using your finger, feel around the inside of the centre hole and outside edge of the disc.

Detaching the Front Panel Press and hold the PWR (Power) button for at least 3 seconds to turn off the power. Press the Release ( ) button at lower left corner until the front panel pops out. Grasp the left side of the front panel and pull it out.
Attaching the Front Panel 1. First, insert the right side of the front panel into the main unit. Align the 2 small holes on the front panel with the 2 projections on the main unit. 2. Push the left side of the front panel until it locks firmly into the main unit.
Initial System Start-Up Immediately after installing or applying power to the unit, it should be initial- ized. To do this, first, remove the detachable front panel. Behind the front panel, to the left of the connector, there is a small hole. Using a pencil or other pointed object, press the red reset button mounted behind this hole to complete the initialization procedure.
Turning Power On and Off The unit can be turned on by pressing any operational button on the unit. The volume level gradually increases automatically to the previous level you were listening to before the unit was turned off. Note: The very first time power is applied to the unit, the volume will start from level 12.
Subwoofer On and Off (CTA-1505R only) Press and hold the INTLZ button for at least 3 seconds. Notes: Initial mode is "SUBW OFF." Set to "SUBW OFF" unless the subwoofer is used. When the subwoofer is turned on, the subwoofer output level can be adjusted. For more details, refer to the Adjusting Volume/Balance/Fader section on page English...

BBE level can be adjusted. Rotate the MODE (Audio Control) knob until the desired sound is obtained in each mode. Note for CTA-1502R only: The settings of the Bass and Treble will be individually memorized for each source (FM, MW (LW) and CD) until the setting is changed.
Setting Bass Frequency (CTA-1502R only) The bass control centre frequency can be set at 60, 70, 80 or 100 Hz. Press and hold the INTLZ button for at least 3 seconds. Press the f UP button repeatedly until the display shows "BC."...

Selecting BBE Mode The BBE (Barcus Berry Electronics) processor installed in this unit is de- signed to correct the phase distortion inherent in most loudspeaker designs. Ensuring the phase integrity of the signal driving the speakers improves the accurate reproduction of the sound. Press and hold the MODE (Audio Control) knob for at least 2 seconds to turn on the BBE mode.

Manual Tuning Press the SRC (Source) button until a radio frequency appears in the display. Press the BAND button repeatedly until the desired radio band is displayed. Each press changes the band; Press the TUNE button repeatedly until "DX SEEK" and "SEEK" disappear from the display.
Automatic Seek Tuning Press the SRC (Source) button until a radio frequency appears in the display. Press the BAND button repeatedly until the desired radio band is displayed. Each press changes the band; Press the TUNE button to illuminate the DX and SEEK indicators in the display.
Manual Storing of Station Presets Select the radio band and tune in a desired radio station you wish to store in the preset memory. Press and hold any one of the preset buttons (1 through 6) for at least 2 seconds until the station frequency on the display blinks.
Automatic Memory of Station Presets Press the SRC (Source) button to select the radio mode. Press the BAND button repeatedly until the desired radio band is displayed. Press and hold the A.ME button for at least 2 seconds. The tuner will automati- cally seek and store 6 strong stations in the selected band onto the 1 to 6 buttons in order of signal strength.
Tuning to Preset Stations Press the SRC (Source) button to select the radio mode. Press the BAND button repeatedly until the desired band is displayed. Press the station preset button that has your desired radio station in memory. The display shows the band, preset number with a triangle and frequency of the station selected.
Auto Station Search While Traveling This function will automatically search for up to 12 stations receivable in the region you are in and store them in temporary memory. Use this function when you are traveling in a region away from your home. Press the BAND button repeatedly until the desired radio band is displayed.

To deactivate the Travel Search mode, press the F3 button. Notes: If no stations are stored, the display shows "NO MEMORY." When the radio band is changed, the stations stored in memory using this function will be erased. Press the FUNC button to activate the normal mode.
The RDS (Radio Data System) is a radio information system using the 57 kHz subcarrier of regular FM broadcast. The RDS allows you to receive a variety of information such as traffic information, station names, and to automatically re-tune to a stronger transmitter that is broadcasting the same programme.

Press the F1 button to deactivate the RDS mode. Press the FUNC button to activate the normal mode. The FUNC indicator will turn off. Note: Setting should be performed within 5 seconds after the FUNC button is pressed. The unit will automatically return to the normal mode 5 seconds after pressing the button.
Recalling Preset RDS Stations Press the FUNC button to illuminate the FUNC indicator. Press the F1 button to activate the RDS mode. The display shows "AF" when the RDS mode is activated. Press the preset location button in which your desired RDS station is preset. If the preset station's signal is weak, the unit automatically searches and tunes to a stronger station in the AF (Alternative...

If the signal level of the Regional (Local) station being tuned becomes too weak to receive, press the same preset location button to tune in a Regional station in other district. Note: For presetting the RDS stations, refer to the Radio Operation section.

Receiving Traffic Information Press the FUNC button to illuminate the FUNC indicator. Press the F2 button to activate the Traffic Information mode. Press the DN g or f UP button to select your desired traffic information station. When a traffic information station is tuned in, the TP indicator lights up.

English Notes: Setting should be performed within 5 seconds after the FUNC button is pressed. The unit will automatically return to the normal mode 5 seconds after pressing the button. If the traffic information broad- cast signal falls below a certain level, the unit remains in the receiving mode for 1 minute.
PTY (Programme Type) Tuning Press the FUNC button. The FUNC indicator will illuminate. Press the F5 button to activate the PTY mode. The Programme Type of the station being currently received will be displayed for 5 seconds. If there is no receivable PTY broadcast, "NO PTY"...

Press the F5 button within 5 seconds after selecting the programme type to start searching for a station in the selected programme type. The chosen programme type indicator blinks during searching and lights when a station is found. If no station is found, "NO PTY" will be displayed for 5 seconds.
Receiving Traffic Infor- mation While Playing CD or Radio Press the FUNC button to illuminate the FUNC indicator. Press the F2 button repeatedly until the T.INFO indicator appears in the display. Press the DN g and f UP buttons to select a traffic information station if necessary.

When traffic information stations cannot be received: In the tuner mode: When the TP signal can no longer be received for over 1 minute, the "T.INFO" indicator blinks. In the CD mode: When the TP signal can no longer be received, the traffic information station of another frequency will be selected automatically.
Priority PTY (Programme Type) This function allows presetting of a programme type such as music category, news, etc. You can listen to a pro- gramme in the preset programme type as the unit automatically gives priority to the preset programme type when it begins broadcasting, and interrupts the pro- gramme you are currently listening.

Displaying Radio Text Text messages from a radio station can be displayed. Tune in a radio station that transmits text messages. Press the FUNC button. The FUNC indicator illuminates. Press the F4 button to activate the Radio Text mode. The display shows "R/T WAIT" for a few seconds, then starts scrolling the text message.

Note: If the FUNC indicator is illuminated, the Disc Select buttons become nonfunctional. When a 12-disc CD Shuttle is connected: To select discs numbered from 1 to 6, the procedure is the same as for the 6-disc CD Shuttle. To select discs numbered from 7 to 12, first press the FUNC button.
Music Sensor (Skip) Momentarily press the DN g button once during CD play to return to the beginning of the current track. If you wish to access a track further back, repeatedly press until you reach the desired track. Press the f UP button once to advance to the beginning of the next track.
Repeat Play on Single Track or Entire Disc Press the FUNC (Function) button* to illuminate the FUNC indicator. * In the 12-disc CD Shuttle mode, press this button twice. Press the F4 button during CD play to display "RPT" or "RPT ALL" to play back repeatedly the current track being played or the entire disc selected.
M.I.X. (Random) Play Press the FUNC button* to illuminate the FUNC indicator. * In the 12-disc CD Shuttle mode, press this button twice. Press the F3 button during CD play. Each press changes the display indication; M.I.X. ALL M.I.X. (off) Select the desired mode.
Scanning Discs Press the FUNC button* to illuminate the FUNC indicator. * In the 12-disc CD Shuttle mode, press this button twice. Press the F5 button in the CD mode to play the first 10 seconds of each track on the disc.

Searching for Titled Discs You can search for CDs with their titles if they are titled. (To title CDs, refer to "Titling Discs" on pages 58 and 59.) Press and hold the BAND button for at least 2 seconds while a CD title is dis- played.
Erasing Disc Title Press the TITLE button to select the disc titling mode. Then, press and hold for at least 3 seconds. Press and hold the -/J button for at least 2 seconds to activate the title scanning mode. The title in the display will blink. Press the DN (g) or (f) UP button repeatedly unitl the disc title you want to erase is displayed.
Multi-Changer Selection Alpine's Ai-NET system will support up to 6 CD Shuttles. When operating two or more changers, the KCA-400C (Multi- Changer Switching device) must be used. If you use 1 Switching device, you can connect up to 4 CD Shuttles. If you use 2 Switching devices, you can connect up to 6 CD Shuttles.

Equalizer Presets (CTA-1505R only) Six typical equalizer settings are preset at the factory for a variety of musical source material. Press and hold the EQ button for at least 3 seconds. The Equalizer mode will activate. Press one of the location buttons (F1 through F6) that has your desired preset equalizer curve.

Adjusting the Equalizer Settings (CTA-1505R only) You can modify the Equalizer settings to create a response curve more appealing to your personal taste. Press the location button F1 through F6 to select the Equalizer setting preset which you wish to adjust. Within 5 seconds after the operation of 1, press the BAND button to select the frequency band to be adjusted.
Memorizing the Equalizer Settings (CTA-1505R only) Select the desired equalizer setting (factory preset or your own) you wish to store in memory. Within 5 seconds after operating step 1, press and hold any one of the F1-F6 buttons for at least 2 seconds. The triangle (9) blinks for 5 seconds showing the unit is ready for storing.

Recalling the Memorized Equalizer Settings (CTA-1505R only) Press and hold the EQ button for more than 3 seconds. To recall your preset, press one of the F1-F6 buttons within 5 seconds after the operation in Section 1. This provides sound characteristics of your own design.

Battery Replacement Applicable battery: Use two "AAA" sized dry batteries or equivalent. Opening the battery cover Slide out the battery cover while firmly pressing outward. Replacing the battery Put the batteries in the case observing the polarities as illustrated. Closing the cover Push the cover as illustrated until a click is heard.
