External Device Connection Problems and Solutions
Problem
A new device is not
recognized as part of
the computer system.

Possible Cause
The signal cable or
power cord of the new
device is loose or
disconnected.
More than one optional
device has the same
interrupt request (IRQ)
setting.
The device may have
been inserted while
power was on.
Troubleshooting
Solution

Ensure that all
cables are properly
and securely
connected.

Ensure that all
power cords are
properly and
securely plugged
into an electrical
outlet.
Correct the IRQ settings
for optional devices that
are conflicting.
Turn the computer Off,
then insert the new
device. Turn on external
devices with power
switches. Restart the
system.
