If You Have a Problem
3 Replace the cover (see page 30) and reconnect the power cord.
4 Switch on the PC. You will see a message declaring that the passwords have been cleared.
5 Shut down the PC and replace the jumper to its original position.
6 Replace the PC's cover and restart the PC. Press F2 to enter the Setup program when prompted. You
now have full access to the Setup program. For more information on Setup, refer to page 25.
Clearing CMOS and Passwords
To clear CMOS and BIOS password settings:
1 Disconnect the power cord and remove the PC's cover. Refer to page 29.
2 Move the Clear CMOS/Passwords jumper to the Clear CMOS/Passwords position shown above for 5
seconds and then replace it in the default position.
3 Replace the cover (see page 30) and reconnect the power cord.
4 Restart the PC and press F2 to enter the Setup program when prompted. You will now have to re-enter
the correct date and time.

Your PC's BIOS

The BIOS (Basic Input Output System) in your PC has the following roles:
It tests and configures your PC's hardware components during the POST (Power On Self-Test).
It lets you configure your PC by using the Setup program. See "HP Setup Program" on page 25.
It provides the link between the software running on your PC and your PC's hardware.
The BIOS is stored in a chip on the system board. A PC's BIOS is specific to that PC.
Updating Your PC's BIOS
Many problems with your PC can be solved by updating (flashing) the PC's BIOS.
Updating (flashing) your BIOS is a simple procedure that involves booting your PC from a floppy disk
containing the new BIOS.
The latest BIOS for your PC along with instructions on updating can be downloaded from HP's Support
Web site at: www.hp.com/go/briosupport.
