This chapter explains how to use McAfee Utilities to secure your valuable
information so it remains private from unauthorized access. It also describes
how to manage your system to customize the appearance and behavior of
Windows; and how to quickly and effectively archive information or exchange
it with others.
The McAfee Utilities Secure and Manage suite consists of six utilities:
• EZ Setup–lets you customize the appearance of Windows, including the
desktop, startup programs, icons, startup and close screens.
• PGP–lets you encrypt and decrypt files, and allows you to digitally sign
information to ensure authenticity.
• McAfee Shredder–lets you permanently erase selected files or non-file
data on your hard drives.
• McAfee Zip Manager–lets you create Zip files, expand Zip files, and build
self-expanding executable Zip files.
• Registry Pro– lets you manually troubleshoot, edit, and repair the registry
database.
• McAfee Task Manager–allows you to have better control on any
application running on your computer. You can simply reactivate an
application that appears to be inactive or end the application at the click of
a button.
EZ Setup
EZ Setup lets you customize the appearance of Windows (the Windows
desktop, startup programs, icons, startup and close screens, and so on).
Although you can perform some customization using the Control Panel, EZ
Setup lets you change the appearance of these objects more fully and easily
than in the Control Panel.
• System tab allows you to view or enter: owner information; startup and
shutdown bitmap options; as well product identification.
• Privacy and Security tab enables you disable Boot-time keys (e.g., F4, F5
and shift F6); disable registry editing; show, hide or clear at logon, History
list containing information such as documents you worked on and searches
you made via your PC's browser.
