Device Preparation

Before installing a storage device in the system, follow any preinstallation instructions that
come with the device. For example, check the following:
n
Diskette drive
documentation that comes with the drive.
n
IDE device
documentation that comes with the device for jumper setting information.
An IDE device, such as an IDE hard disk drive or IDE CD-ROM reader, must be
set correctly as the first (master) or second (slave) device on the IDE channel.
One master and one slave device are supported on the primary IDE connector,
one master and one slave device are supported on the secondary connector.
The standard IDE hard disk drive is set as the master device on the primary IDE
connector. The standard CD-ROM reader is set as the master device on the
secondary IDE connector.
In the models with a Zip drive, the Zip drive is set as the slave device on the
primary IDE connector.
