iSCSI Initiator
An iSCSI Initiator is a system (server, workstation, storage device, router or switch) that
starts (initiates) the transfer of information to and from an iSCSI target.
iSCSI Name
An iSCSI Name is used by the Initiator and Target for locating storage resource and
storage resource allocation. The iSCSI Name also is used to identify which initiator has
access to which target resource.
iSCSI Target
An iSCSI Target is any device that responds to and communicates with the iSCSI
initiator, while terminating the TCP/IP protocol and the iSCSI protocol.
IS-NIC
An IS-NIC is an SNIC that incorporates TCP/IP offload features and fully integrates the
TCP/IP stack.
iSNS
Internet Storage Name Service. iSNS is a common discovery, naming, and resource
management service for all of the IP storage protocols.
ISP
Internet Service Provider. This is a company that provides Internet access.
Journaling
A Journaling File System (JFS) enables easy file system recovery and ensures no loss of
data in the event of an unscheduled downtime. It provides efficient formatting when new
drives are added and it allows quick recovery after abnormal shutdowns.
LAN
Local-Area Network. Basically a small bunch of computers/nodes that are connected
together. Usually on the same subnet.
