Preliminary steps
Remove the unit and all accessories from the packing. Please keep
the packing sections in a safe place in case they are needed at a later
date for transport.
By applying pressure to the sides, remove
the transport safety
catches 16 (fig. 2). Then lower the platter into position and fit on the
platter mat. Insert the hinges 2 in the appropriate recesses (fig. 4).
Slide the cover 1 parallel to the position of the hinges 2 (opening angle
approximately 60°) until it locks in position. In this position, the cover
can be removed at any time.
Connection to the AC mains
The turntable must be connected to a mains voltage of 230 V/50—60
Hz or to
115 W50-60 Hz in accordance with the voltage information
on the rating plate.
The unit can also be connected to the socket of appropriately fitted
amplifiers.
Connection to amplifier or receiver
Connect
the audio cables to the phono-magnetic
inputs of the
amplifier or receiver (black or red RCA-type plug = right channel,
white RCA-type plug = left channel).
Connect the single ground wire fitted with a terminal clip to the
ground connection on the rear of the amplifier.
If your stereo amplifier or receiver is equipped with 5-pole DIN phono
sockets, a special phono adapter (Dual part nr. 262 483) is required
for connection of your turntable. This adapter cable can be obtained
as optional accessory from authorized Dual dealers.
Balancing the tonearm and setting the tracking
and antiskating force
1. Set the tracking force 4 to O
v
and switch off the antiskating device 5: ` 14191.
. Turn the tonearm counterbalance 3 on the tonearm.
. Swing the tonearm inwards.
. Lower with the button 8 Lift. Hold the tonearm whilst doing so.
. Balance the tonearm precisely by turning the counter-balance.
The tonearm is balanced precisely when it pivots freely.
. Set the required tracking force for the cartridge used by turning
the dial 4. The tracking force for series cartridges ULM 66 =
12.5 mN.
Note: If a different cartridge is used, refer to the separate cartridge
data sheet for the necessary setting values.
Set the appropriate value of the antiskating device 5 on the basis of
the following table:

Automatic start, speed selection, stop
Using button 9 or 10, select the speed of 33% rpm or 45 rpm, and
with the rotary switch 6 select the record diameter of 17 or 30 cm.
The precise speed, which is maintained constant by means of a
crystal oscillator, is displayed by means of the LED in the appropriate
button and by means of the speed display 15. Remove the stylus
guard by pulling it forwards and disengage the tonearm. Depress the
start button 11.
The tonearm is automatically lowered onto the record. At the end of
the record, the tonearm is automatically returned to the tonearm
support and the unit switched
off. You can also switch off the
turntable by depressing the stop button 12, or by depressing the lift
button 8 and returning the tonearm to the tonearm support.
We recommend that the tonearm should be engaged on the support
whenever it is returned to this position.
Manual start, Tonearm lift
Manually position the tonearm
above the required point on the
record. Press the lift button 8. The tonearm is lowered.
The tonearm can be raised from any position, also for brief interrup-
tion of play, with the lift button 8. The platter continues to turn.
Pitch control
The speeds 33% rpm and 45 rpm can be varied between 30 and 36
rem and 42 and 48 rpm respectively, in 600 steps using the pitch
control 14. The set speed is read off the speed display 15 and is kept
stable by means of a crystal oscillator.
At the normal
speed, the LED
in the appropriate button lights
constantly. If the speed is reduced or increased with the use of the
pitch control 14, the LED flashes slowly or quickly as appropriate. If
two buttons are depressed simultaneously, the normal speed is set
once again.
Malfunctions
In the event of malfunctions, which may be caused via the mains
supply, pull out the mains switch and then insert it once again.
If the drive is inhibited for longer than three seconds (e. g. if the platter
is halted by hand), a protective circuit, which switches off the motor,
is activated. The LED's in the two speed buttons 9 and 10 then flash.
The motor starts to run again after approximately ten seconds.
Changing and fitting the cartridge
A % inch cartridge with a net weight of 2.5 . . . 8 g can be fitted in
place of the cartridge already fitted or on units without a cartridge.
The Dual range of accessories offers appropriate cartridges.
Loosen screw 13 and remove the head shell by pulling it forward.
Remove the cartridge by loosening the two securing screws. Pull off
the connection wire on the cartridge. Attach the new cartridge, at first
loosely, on the head shell. Secure the connection wires with the
connection pin on the cartridge.
Red R right channel
blue GL left channel ground
Green RG right channel ground
white L left channel
Replace the head shell on the tonearm and secure screw 13. Cut out
the assembly instructions on page 2 of the operation instructions and
place them in between the tonearm bearing and the cartridge. Now
adjust the cartridge parallel to the head shell so that the stylus is
exactly on the line with a clearance of 211 mm.
Stylus
The stylus is subject to natural wear and tear during playing. We
therefore recommend regular checks, which should be carried out
after at least 300 playing hours in the case of diamond-tipped styli.
Your dealer will be happy to do this for you cost-free. Worn out or
damaged (chipped) styli damage records. Therefore, only use as
replacements the stylus types recommended in the technical data of
the cartridge. Other styli often cause audible reductions in quality and
increased wear to records. Remove the stylus by pulling it diagonally
downwards.
To fit a stylus in, follow the procedure in reverse order (fig. 3).
Electrical safety
The unit complies with the International Safety Regulations for radio
and related devices (IEC 65) and the EEC guidelines 76/499/EWG.
