General safety instructions
Electric shock, short cir-
WARNING
cuit or fire
Touching conductive parts of the vehicle can lead to
an electric shock. Working on the vehicle electrical
system can cause a short circuit. Short circuits can
cause fire.
e
Always disconnect the negative terminal on the
battery when working on the electrical system.
e
Tools or conductive items of jewelry (rings,
necklaces, watchstraps) must not be allowed to
come in contact with conductive parts of the
vehicle.
Fire or explosion
WARNING
Many automotive fluids are highly flammable, e.g.
fuel, engine oil or transmission oil. Fuel vapors can
combust. A highly explosive electrolytic gas mixture
can form when charging lead batteries.
e
Always disconnect the negative terminal on the
battery when working on the electrical system.
e
To avoid the buildup of static charge, do not
wipe down the battery with a dry cloth.
e
Before touching the battery, first touch the vehi-

e
Never smoke or use naked flames near the bat-
tery. Also watch out for flying sparks, e.g. when
cables make contact.
e
Only work on the vehicle outdoors or in well-ven-
tilated spaces.

CAUTION
Lead batteries contain highly caustic battery acid
that can cause damage on contact with skin or cloth-

e
To prevent acid from leaking out, do not tip the
battery.
e
If battery acid contacts the eyes or skin: Rinse
with cold water for several minutes.

tor, electrical control units and components.
e
The battery should only be removed and installed
by an authorized Porsche dealer. Porsche recom-

trained technicians and the necessary parts and
tools.
e
