Electric shock, short
WARNING
circuit or fire
Touching conductive parts of the vehicle can lead
to an electric shock. You can cause a short circuit
when working on the vehicle's electrical system.
The short circuit can cause a fire.
e Always detach the negative terminal on the
battery when working on the electrical system.
e Tools or conductive items of jewelry (rings,
necklaces, watchstraps) must not be allowed
to come in contact with conductive parts of the
vehicle.
Fire or explosion
WARNING
Many automotive fluids are highly flammable, e.g.,
fuel, engine or transmission oil. Fuel vapors can
combust. A highly explosive electrolytic gas mix-
ture can form when charging lead batteries.
e Always detach the negative terminal on the
battery when working on the electrical system.
e To avoid static charges building, do not wipe
down the battery with a dry cloth.
e Before touching the battery, first touch the ve-
hicle itself to allow any static charge to
dissipate.
e Never smoke or use naked flames near the
battery. Also beware of sparks, e.g. as a result
of cable contact.
e Only work on the vehicle outdoors or in well-
ventilated spaces.
Corrosive electrolyte
CAUTION
Lead batteries contain highly caustic battery acid
that can cause damage to the skin and clothing in
the event of contact.
e Wear safety gloves and eye protection.
e To prevent acid from leaking out, do not tilt the
battery.
e If battery acid gets into your eyes or on your
skin: Rinse with cold water for several minutes.
NOTICE
Risk of short circuiting, fire and damage to the al-
ternator and electronic control units and
components.
e The battery should only be removed and in-
stalled at an authorized Porsche dealer. Por-
sche recommends an authorized Porsche
dealer, as they have trained technicians and the
necessary parts and tools.
e Always detach the negative terminal on the
battery when working on the electrical system.
The 12-volt battery is located under a separate
plastic cover under the luggage compartment
floor.
E-Hybrid vehicles: The 12-volt battery is located in
the luggage compartment behind the luggage
compartment trim panel on the right side of the
vehicle.
e Never connect jumper cables directly to the
battery.

Risk of explosion
A highly explosive electrolytic gas mix-
ture can form when charging the bat-
tery, therefore:
Fire, sparks, naked flames and
smoking are prohibited
Avoid sparking and short circuits when
handling cables and electrical devices.
In the case of batteries with central de-
gassing, there is a higher concentra-
tion of explosive electrolytic gas at the
hose opening. The degassing hose
must not be twisted or clogged with
dirt.
Risk of chemical burns
Battery acid is highly corrosive, there-
fore: protective gloves and goggles
must be worn. Do not tilt the battery, as
acid can escape from the degassing
outlet.
First aid
If acid splashes into your eye, rinse im-
mediately for a few minutes with clean
water. Immediately seek medical atten-
tion from a doctor. If acid splashes onto
