CONNECTING
ROD,
DRIVE HOUSING, or CRANKSHAFT REPLACEMENT
WARNING

1. Stop the sprayer
at the bottom of its stroke to get
the crank (27) in its lowest position.. If the crank
must be lowered manually, carefully rotate the
blades of the fan with a screwdriver.
2.
Remove the front cover (31). pail hanger

screws (32).
3. Unscrew the suction tube
(42) from the pump,

holding a wrench on the pump intake valve to keep
the pump from loosening.
4. Disconnect the pump outlet hose (47) from the
outlet nipple
(46).
5. Use a screwdriver to push aside the retaining spring
(35)
at the top of the pump. Push the pin
(20)
out
the rear.
6.
Loosen the jam nut (38) with an adjustable wrench.
Unscrew and remove the displacement pump.
7. Use
a
3 / 1 6 hex key wrench to remove the three
the drive housing (181.
screws and lockwashen (30.63) from the recess of
8. Use a 5/32" hex keywrench to remove the
two
screws and lockwashen (21, 83) from the top rear
of the front end bell
(E).
9. Lightly tap the lower rear of the drive housing with
a plastic mallet to loosen
it
from the motor front end
bell. Then pull the housing off.
CAUTION
DO
NOT
allow the gear cluster (9) to fall when
removing the drive housing
(18). It is easi/y
damaged if dropped.
DO NOT lose the thrust balls (10) located
at
each
tween gears. The ball, which is heavily covered
end of the gear cluster (9) or allow them to fall be-
with'grease, usually stays in the shaft recesses,
but could be dislodged. If caught between gears
and not removed, the bells will seriously damage
the drive housing.
If
the balls are not in place, the
bearings will wear prematurely.
10. Inspect the drive housing for damage and replace if
needed.
11. Pull the crankshaft
(27)
out. Inspect for wear or
damage and replace, if needed. Be
sure
a washer

27b) is placed on each side of the crankshaft
assembly.
12. Remove the connecting rod
(29).

13. Evenly lubricate the inside of the bronze bearing In
the drive housing (18) with high quality motor

15. Install the crankshaft

16. Clean the mating surfaces of the drive housing (18)
and front end bell

17. Carefully align the drive housing and front end bell
with the locating pins, then push the drive housing
onto the end bell or tap
it
into place with a plastic
mallet.
18. Install the screws and lockwashers
(30, 63) and
tighten evenly.
CAUTION
align or seat the housing, which would cause im-
