6.2 Using the AUX Port

There are many possible uses for the AUX output. For
example, it can be used to turn on auxiliary cooling
fans. To do this the AUX connector might be used to
close a relay. The relay would then turn the fans on or
off. This is shown in Figure 6.14.
The solid state relay shown (Crown part number D
7308-7) can be ordered from the Crown Parts Depart-
ment.
The Aux port uses a male 3-pin mini XLR connector
which is located above the DB9 connector (Figure
2.1). Use a Switchcraft
equivalent to make the connection.

When the Aux port is turned on by the IQ System it
provides 10 VDC across pins 3 (+) and 1 (ground). An
internal 1.5 K ohm resistor limits the current to a maxi-
mum of 16 mA. This is shown below in Figure 6.15.

Notice in Figure 6.15 that the AUX connector can be
used to sense the presence of an input signal across
pins 2 (+) and 1 (ground). It is a high impedance input
and includes a pull-down resistor.
