Basic Operation
TheHK 3470 is simpleto operate,and very sim-
ilar to stereoreceiversyou may haveusedin
the past Thissectionwill explainthe useof
severalfeaturesthat maybe new to you,
• Installthe two supp4ied AAA batteriesinthe
remoteasshown Becertain to observethe (+)
and (-) polarityindicatorsshown in the bottom
of the batterycompartment,
• When usingthe HK 3470 for the hrst time, it
will be necessary t o pressthe Main Power
button[]
on the flont panelto turn the unit
on This placesthe unit in a standbymode,as
indicatedbythe ambercolor of the Power
Indicator [_'1.Oncethe unit is in standby,you
maybegin a listeningsessionby pressingthe
System Power Control [] on the front panel
or the Main Power On button Q on the
remote Notethat the Power Indicator []
will turn red,then green.Thiswill turn the unit
on and return it to the input sourcethat was
lastused Theunit may also be turned on from
standbyby pressingany of the Source
Selector buttonson the front panel []

• Todim the brightnessof the front paneldis-

remote Thefirst presswill dim the lights to half
normal A secondpresswill turn the display

again to restorethe displayto normalbright-

manentlydamagemost loudspeakersIt is also
possible, d ependinguponthe programmaterial,
for clippingto occur at volumesbelow the max_
imumvolumelevel,
• Totemporarilysilenceall speakeroutputs,
pressthe Mute button I_[]
Thiswill cut the
output to all speakers, b ut it will not affect any
recordingor dubbingthat may be in progress,
When the systemis muted,the MUTt indicator
will light in the Main Information Display

andthe Volume/Mute indicator[]
will
flash Pressthe Mute button _[]
again to
returnto normaloperation
• Forprivate listening,plug the 1/4" stereo
phoneplug from a pair of stereoheadphones
into the front panelHeadphone jack Lq
• One or two separatesetsof speakersmay be
connectedto the HK 3470, Tolistento oneof
the speakersets,pressthe Speaker buttons

on the front panelcorresponding to the
desiredspeakersTheactive speakers will be
indicatedbya lit green LEDin the Speaker
Indicators []
display Bothsetsof speakers
maybe turnedoff for private headphonelisten-
ing
• Toprogramthe HK 3470 for automaticturn-
off, pressthe Sleep button on the front panel

increase the time beforeshutdownin the fol-
lowing sequence:

Thesleeptime will be displayedinthe Main

and it will count
down until the time haselapsed
When the programmedtime haselapsed,the
unit will automaticallyturn off Notethat the
front paneldisplaywill dim to one-half bright-
nesswhen the Sleepfunction is programmed
Tocancelthe Sleepfunction,pressthe Sleep
button[]_
until the Sleepindicatornumbers
disappearand the Main InformationDisplay
showsthe currentsource Pressing any control
buttonwhile the Sleepcontrol is activatedwill
momentarilyreturn the Main Information
Displayto full brightness for increased legibility

simulatea surround-sound presentation with-

returnto standardstereolistening,pressthe

againand notethat the
VMAx Mode Indicator [] will go out,
Tuner Operation
TheHK 3470'stuner is capableof tuning AM,
FMand FM Stereobroadcaststations Stations
maybe tuned manually,or they may be stored
as favoritestation presetsand recalledfrom a
30-posiBonmemory
Station Selection
1 Press the AM/FM []
buttonson the front
panelor on the remote_ to selectthe tuner
as an input,
