MORE ACCURATE RECORDING STARTS
You can use the 1! button to start recording more accurately than is
possible when recording is started by pressing both the @ and
»
buttons.
© After completing step 4 in the chart, press the If button.
@ Hold the @ button down and press the P button.
© At the moment
you wish to start recording, you need only press
the 18 button again.
MICROPHONE RECORDING
When
you plug a microphone
into the MIC jack and depress the
TAPE
button
in step
3 in the chart,
you
can
record
monaural
microphone sound.
Notes
@ If your microphone is equipped with a miniplug, use a miniplug to
phone plug adaptor, such as the Sony PC-2A (optional).
@ If the microphone is too near the speaker during microphone recor-
ding, a howling effect (whistletike sound) may occur.
If this happens, move or point the microphone away from the speaker
or turn down the sound volume until the howling stops.
*1 Automatic tape selector system
This
automatic
tape
selector
system
detects
the detector
slot
of a
cassette and automatically sets the correct equalization characteristics
and optimum
bias current for recording and playback.
The appropriate tape-type indicator illuminates.

Notes
@ The use of a metal tape cassette which does not have detector slots, is
not recommended
with this cassette deck.
'@TYPE Itl (Fe-Cr) cassettes do not have detector slots and are detected
as TYPE | cassettes. For optimum playback of TYPE Ill cassettes, adjust
the tone quality with the TONE controls.
*2 Sony new automatic recording system
This
new
system
automatically
set the proper
recording
level
for the
cassette
to be used,
according
to the type of tape detected
by the
automatic tape selector system: TYPE |, TYPE Il or TYPE !V. You can take
full advantage of high-quality TYPE I! and TYPE IV cassettes with this
cassette deck.

@For TYPE
Hl cassettes, the recording level is properly adjusted as its
recording characteristics are the same as the TYPE | cassette.
NOTES ON CASSETTES
To protect cassettes from accidental erasure
Remove the tab as illustrated so that the record mode does not function
when the record button is pressed. To record on a cassette once tabs have
been removed, simply cover the siot with plastic tape.

Cassette care
@Do not stick thick paper or tape onto the cassette, as this may affect
proper cassette alignment and prevent proper tape contact with the head.
@Keep cassettes
away from magnetic equipment
such as speakers,
amplifiers, etc., as erasure or distortion on your recorded tape could oc-
cur.
@Do not expose a cassette to direct sunlight, extremely cold tempera-
tures or moisture.
