OPERATING
THE TRACTOR
DRI VING THE
TRACTOR
To
Sh ift Gears
NOTE: Do not shift gears while the tractor is in
motion.
Depress the clutch pedal.
Place the gearshift lever
and
transmission range
lever in
the desired
positions.
Slowly
release the clutch pedal.
For ground speed,
see "SPEC
IFICATIONS".
NOTE:
Driving speed
depends
on
the
load
ap plied.
A
CAUTION! Before
backing the
tracto
r,
always look for obstacles
or
bystanders
in
the
area where
the tractor
will
move.
NOTE:
Do
not
"ride" t
he
clutch or
brake
peda
ls
by
resting
t
he feet
on t
he
pedals
while
d
riving
t
he
tractor because this will result in
excessive wear.

Use
the
brakes
as

urning
brakes
only at
low
speeds to maintain
control
of the
tract
o
r.

UTION! Pedals must
be latched

when
operating
t
he
tractor in
th
ird
or fourth gear, in high
range.
When moving on public roads, or from field t
o
field, latch brake pedals together for
simulta
neous
operation when making a stop to reduce the
possi-
bility of loss of control
and
upset or collision.

ON SLOPES
Before
operating
th
e
tractor on any
slope,
wal
k
the slope
to
look for possible hazards
such as
rocks,
mounds,
ruts, stum ps or other
surface
irreg-
ularit
ies
wh
ic
h
cou
ld cause
an
upset
.
Drive
up
or
down
t
he
face
of a
slope.
Back
the
tractor
w
ith
front or mid-mounted
imple-
ments up the
steepest
po
rtion of each slope you
intend to work.
If
the tractor can not
negotiate
the slope in reverse,
the
slope is
too steep
to
be
worked
.
CAUTION! This Off
-Set,
Hi·Clear
Trac-
tor is more
susceptible to tipping
to the
left than conventional tractor.
Use
first gear in low range when drivi ng on a
steep
slo pe. The tractor must always
be
in
gea
r
to
take
advantage
of engine braking during o
peratio
n
on
a sl
ope.
Avoid turns when driving on a slope. If a turn
must
be
made,
turn
down t
he
slope.
Turning up
a
sl
ope
greatly
increases the chance
of
a roll over.
Avoid
stopping when driving
up
a
sl
ope.
If
it
is
necessary to stop
whi
le driving up
a sl
ope, start up
smoothly
and carefully to reduce
the
possibility of
fl
ipping
the tractor over backward
.
TOWING THE TRACTOR
When
towing
is necessary, use
a
tow rope, chain
,
or
cable
and have an operato
r
steer t
he
tractor
an
d
operate t
he
brakes.
When
towing a tractor
out
of
a stuJ:k condition,
the
power of
both
tractors
should be used
.
A
steady, even
pull must be
kept on
the t ractor
all
the
time.
Before
towing the tractor, to t
ransport
it from one
place to
another,
check the
local
laws. It
is
not
recom
me
nded
that a tractor
be
towed for
great
distances
because of safety
hazards,
but
when
it
becomes
necessary the fottowing procedure should
be
foll owed.
