Check the oil levels of the engine crankcase, trans-
mission, and all gear cases to see t hat they are f il led
to the correct levels with oil of the proper viscosit y
for t he prevailing temperature . Refer to "lU -
BR ICATI ON GU IDE",
NOTE: DO NOT operate the tractor with shipaway
oil in temperatures above 90° F (32

Lubricate the entire tractor as descr ibed in the
"LUBRICAT ION GU IDE"_
AIR CLEANING SYSTEM
Check all rubber hoses for cracks and be su re all
hose connections are tigh t. See "AI R C L EAN -
ING SYSTEM ",
TIRES
Check the air pressure in the pneu mat ic t ires nd
inflate or deflate the tires t o t he air pressure
specified in the tables under UT I RES" . T ire t reads
should be cleared of rocks or other foreign obj cts
that could be thrown from the tire cau sing per-
sonal injury or damage to the tire.
ENGINE COOLING SYSTEM
Be sure the coolant is at the correct level. See
"COOLI NG SYSTEM" ,
NOT E: Tractors shipped to dest in ations in th e
United States and Canada have th e coo ling syst em
filled with antifreeze solution . Be su re t he an t i-
freeze is adequate for prevail ing cold te mperatu re
conditions . See "COLD WEATHER PREC AU -
TIONS"
Never start or operate the engine without water or
antifreeze solution in the cooling system.
FUEL
Grade 2-D diesel fuel conforming
to
ASTM 0-975
specif ication must be used for proper operation of
diese l tractor. Grade 1-0 diesel fuel may be used at
temperatures below +10° F (-12.2° C) or for opera-
t ions entailing considerabl e idling. Use only winter
grad e f uel for case of st art ing. Winter grade diesel
fu el must have a cloud point of at least +10° F
(-12.2° C) below the lowest anticipated temperature
to avoi d pl ugging o f the f uel circulation system,
especiall y the fuel fi Iters.
Use clean fuel and keep it clean. Store fuel in
anks equipped with hose and nozzle to prevent
contamination of the · fuel. The use of funnels,
cans, and drums is not recommended because they
are d ifficult to kee p clean .
A ll ow space for fue l expansion when adding fuel
t o t he tank . A tan k filled to ca pacity may overflow
if ex posed to a rise in temperature or direct sun -
l igh t .

CAUTION! Do not add gasoline or al-
cohol to diesel fuel. T his creates a vapor
w hich is extremely explosive.
