Before Connecting the Camera
Install the necessary software from the supplied installer CD (see
the Install Guide for more information). To ensure that data
transfer is not interrupted, be sure the camera battery is fully
charged. If in doubt, charge the battery before use or use an EH-6
AC adapter (available separately).
Before connecting the camera, select the
[USB] option in the camera setup menu
(pg. 350) and choose a USB option from
[MTP/PTP] (default) and [Mass Storage] as
described below.

Do
select [MTP/PTP] when using Nikon Transfer. If [MTP/PTP] is
NOT
selected when the camera is connected, the Windows hardware wizard
will be displayed. Click [Cancel] to exit the wizard, and then disconnect
the camera. Be sure to select [Mass Storage] before reconnecting the
camera.
