13. Replace the radiator's pressure cap.
14. Close the valve at the top of the surge tank, if
previously opened.
15. Maintain the coolant level in the coolant recovery
tank between the high and low marks or
approximately 1/4 full for tanks without marks.
Note: Air pockets often form in the engine water
jacket when the coolant system is refilled.
Check the coolant level in the coolant
recovery tank after each generator set
operation and add coolant as necessary
until the coolant level stabilizes. Then check
the coolant at the interval specified in the
service schedule.
16. Reenergize the block heater, if equipped.

3.8 Belt Tension

WARNING
Rotating parts.
Can cause severe injury or death.
Operate the generator set only when
all guards, screens, and covers are in
place.
Servicing the generator set when it is operating. Exposed
moving parts can cause severe injury or death. Keep
hands, feet, hair, clothing, and test leads away from the belts
and pulleys when the generator set is running. Replace
guards, screens, and covers before operating the generator
set.
Check the belt tension at the interval specified in the
service schedule. If tension is not within specification,
adjust as necessary using the following procedure.

Procedure
1. Disconnect the battery, negative (--) lead first.
2. Remove the belt guard.
3. Check the belt tension at the midpoint of the
longest span of the belt by pressing with your
finger. See Figure 3-10 and Figure 3-11. If the belt
is not within specifications, go to step 4. If belt is
within specifications, go to step 8.

4. Loosen the alternator pivot screw and alternator
adjusting screw.
5. While prying the alternator outward, tighten the
alternator adjusting screw.
6. Tighten the alternator pivot screw.
7. Recheck and adjust as necessary.
8. Replace the belt guard.
9. Reconnect the battery, negative (--) lead last.
Note: Replace a cracked or torn fan belt.
