BLADE CONTROL
Theblade controlis usedto engagethe
mowerdeck.Toengagethis control,press
and hold the leveragainstthe handlebar
grip.Tostop the blades,releasethe blade
control.Alwaysdisengagethe blade
controlbeforestartingthe engine.This
helpsto ensurethat the bladeswill not
startturningwhenthe enginestarts.
DRIVE CONTROL
Thedrivecontrol is usedto engage
and disengagedriveto thewheels.To
engagethis control,squeeze the drive
controlagainstthe handlebargrip.To
stop thedrive, releasethe drivecontrol.
IMPORTANT:Alwaysreleasethe drive
controlbeforechangingspeeds.
GEAR SHIFT LEVER
Use this leverto selectanyof four forwardgroundspeeds,neutral,or
reverse.

Recoil Starter
The recoilstarteris usedto pull-startthe engine.
Oil Drain Valve
Usethe oil drainvalve to drainoil from the engine.Referto the
Maintenance sectionfor instructions.
Air Cleaner Handle
Theair cleanerhandleis usedto gain access to theair cleaner.The air
cleanercartridgecan be removedand cleanedor replaced.Referto
the Maintenance sectionfor details.
Forward
Thereare fourforwardspeeds.Positionone (1) is the slowestand
positionfour(4) is thefastest.
Reverse
Toselectreverse,putthe leverin the Reverse(R) position.
Neutral
Placethe leverin neutral(N) beforestartingthe mower,and when the
moweris not in use. In addition,the mowercan be manuallypushed
or pulled by placingthe gear shiftleverinto N (neutral)positionand
pressingthe drivecontrolagainstthe handlebargrip.
If cartridgeor coverare installedincorrectly,seriousinjuryor death
could resultfrom backfire.Donot attemptto startyourenginewith
them removed.
Spark Plug/Spark Plug Wire
Referto the Maintenance sectionfor instructions on sparkplug
replacement.
Oil Cap/Dipstick
Referto the Maintenance sectionfor instructions on checkingtheoil.
To avoiddamagingthe transmission, d o notshift gearswhenthe
mowerismoving.Releasedrive controlbeforeshiftinggears.
Lookbehindthe mowerbeforeand during reverseoperation.Stop
the mowerbladesbeforeoperatingin reverse.
