Keep the outboard motor in the attitude
shown when transporting and storing it.

Draining the gasoline from the vapor sep-
arator
NOTE:
This procedure is performed while the top
cowling is removed.
1.
Drain the remaining gasoline in the va-
por separator into a container. Loosen
the drain screw, and then remove the
cap. Push in the air valve with a screw-
driver to introduce air into the float
chamber, so that the gasoline will drain
smoothly. Then, tighten the drain screw.

Washing the outboard motor
NOTE:
This procedure is performed while the top
cowling is installed.
1.
Wash the outboard motor body using
fresh water.

2.
Drain the cooling water completely out
of the motor. Clean the body thoroughly.

Lubrication

1.
Install the spark plug(s) and torque to
proper specification. For information on
spark plug installation, see page 58.

Change the gear oil. For instructions,
see page 66. Inspect the oil for the pres-
ence of water that indicates a leaky seal.
Seal replacement should be performed
by an authorized Yamaha dealer prior to
