The sprin klers are de signed to be in -
stalled in ac cor dance with rec og nized
in stal la tion stan dards. De vi a tion from
the stan dards or any al ter ation to the
sprin kler af ter it leaves the fac tory in -

sions of gov ern men tal codes, or di -
nances, and stan dards, when ever
ap pli ca ble.
B. Sprin klers must be han dled with care.
They must be stored in a cool, dry
place in their orig i nal ship ping con -
tainer. Never in stall sprin klers that
have been dropped, dam aged, or ex -
posed to tem per a tures in ex cess of
the max i mum am bi ent tem per a ture
al lowed. Never in stall any glass-bulb
sprin kler if the bulb is cracked or if
there is a loss of liq uid from the bulb.
If a glass bulb lacks the ap pro pri ate
amount of fluid, it should be set aside
and re turned to Vi king (or an au tho -
rized Vi king dis trib u tor) for anal y sis
as soon as pos si ble. If the sprin kler is
not re turned to Vi king, it should be
de stroyed im me di ately.
C. Cor ro sion-resistant sprin klers must
be in stalled when sub ject to cor ro -
sive at mo spheres. When in stall ing
cor ro sion-resistant sprin klers, take
care not to dam age the cor ro -
sion-resistant coat ing. Use only the
spe cial wrench de signed for in stall -
ing coated and re cessed Microfast
Sprin klers (any other wrench may
dam age the unit). DO NOT use the
sprin kler de flec tor to start or thread
the sprin kler into a fit ting.
D. Use care when lo cat ing sprin klers
near fix tures that can gen er ate heat.

E. Be fore in stal la tion, be sure to have
the ap pro pri ate sprin kler model and
style, with the proper or i fice size,
tem per a ture rat ing, and re sponse
char ac ter is tics. The sprin kler must
be in stalled af ter the pip ing is in place
to pre vent me chan i cal dam age.
1. In stall es cutch eon (if used), which
is de signed to thread onto the ex -

the de flec tor to start or thread the
sprin kler into a fit ting.
F. Af ter in stal la tion, the en tire sprin kler
sys tem must be tested in ac cor dance
with the rec og nized in stal la tion stan -
dards. The test is ap plied af ter the
sprin kler in stal la tion to en sure that no
dam age has oc curred to the sprin kler
dur ing ship ping and in stal la tion, and
to make sure the sprin kler has been
prop erly tight ened. If a thread leak
oc curs, nor mally the sprin kler must
be re moved, new pipe-joint com -
pound or tape ap plied, and then re in -
stalled. This is due to the fact that
when the joint seal is dam aged, the
seal ing com pound or tape is washed
out of the joint. Air test ing the sprin -
kler pip ing prior to test ing with wa ter
may be con sid ered in ar eas where
leak age dur ing test ing must be pre -
vented. Re fer to the ap pro pri ate
tech ni cal data and the Au thor ity Hav -
