3. PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
The Vi king Micromatic Model M Side -
®
wall Sprin kler is
thermosensitive glass-bulb spray sprin -
kler. The sprin kler con sists of a small
frame and rug ged 5 mm glass-bulb, and
is avail able as a hor i zon tal side wall or as
a ver ti cal side wall style that is de signed
for in stal la tion in ei ther the up right or
pen dent po si tion.

klers are avail able with fin ishes and tem -
per a ture rat ings to meet de sign re quire -
ments. Used in con junc tion with one of
the var i ous cor ro sion-resistant coat ings,
the units pro vide pro tec tion against
many cor ro sive en vi ron ments. In ad di -
tion, the spe cial poly es ter or Tef lon
coat ings can be used in dec o ra tive ap -
pli ca tions.
Dur ing fire con di tions, the heat-sensitive
liq uid in the glass bulb ex pands, caus ing
the bulb to shat ter, re leas ing the pip cap
and seal ing spring as sem bly. Wa ter
flow ing through the sprin kler or i fice
strikes the sprin kler de flec tor, form ing a
uni form spray pat tern to ex tin guish or
con trol the fire.

as open sprin klers (glass bulb and
pip-cap as sem bly re moved) on de luge
sys tems.

The corrosion-resistant coatings have passed the standard corrosion test required by the
approving agencies indicated (refer to Table 2 on page 14 c and Table 3 on page 14 d). These
tests cannot and do not represent all possible corrosive environments. Prior to installation,

verify through the end-user that the coatings are compatible or suitable for the proposed
environment. The coatings indicated are applied to the exposed exterior surfaces only and,
therefore, cannot be used as open sprinklers. Note that the spring is exposed on the Teflon
and Polyester coated sprinklers.
