Electrical System

Bin and Water Level Sensors
There are two indicator lights on the control board.
The Bin Empty light glows when there is no ice
between the electric eyes.
The Water Level light only glows when there is a
lack of water in the reservoir.
If no lights, check for power to the machine and
voltage from the transformer. Also check for
mis-alignment of the electric eyes or dirty eyes.
Clean and or adjust as needed.
To check the electrical system, first check the lights
on the circuit board.
1. Remove the top panel.
2. Remove the right side panel.
3. Remove the control box cover.
If the problem is that the machine will not start, and
the bin empty light is glowing and the water level
light is not, the gearmotor relay should be
checked. The auger motor must start, and the
switch on top the motor close, or the compressor
will not receive any electrical power.
If the gear motor relay is not closed (Com to NO),
there is a potential problem with the control circuit.
Scotsman has a circuit tester that can be plugged
in to replace the water level sensor and the electric
eyes. Use it or use replacement sensors to
determine if the fault is at the water level sensor,
the electric eyes or in the circuit board. The
sensors cannot be "ohmed" or jumped out.
To use the Scotsman Circuit Tester:
1. Disconnect the electrical power.
2. Unplug the electric eyes (marked "photo trans"
and "LED") and water level sensor (marked "water
sen") from the control board.
3. Plug the connecting wires from the tester into
the circuit board.
4. Reconnect power.
5. Move the Bin Full switch on the tester to FULL.
The light on the tester should be ON.
If the light on the tester is not on, the circuit board
should be replaced.
6. If the light on the tester is ON, move the bin full
switch to Bin Empty. The light on the tester should
go OFF, and the Bin Empty light on the circuit
board should go ON.
If the bin empty light is on, wait 10-20 seconds for
the machine to start. If the machine starts, replace
the electric eyes.
If the bin empty light does not go on, replace the
circuit board.
7. Move the "Water" switch on the tester to the No
Water position. The No Water light on the circuit
board should go on. If not, replace the circuit board.
8. Move the "water" switch on the tester to the
"Water" position. The No Water light on the circuit
board should go OFF. If not, replace the circuit
board. If the light goes go off, replace the ice level
sensors.
