6.1 PARKING BRAKE ADJUSTMENT

WARNING
Do not operate the mower if the parking brake
is not operable. Possible severe injury could
result.
The parking brake linkage should be adjusted whenever
the parking brake lock latch is placed in the "ENGAGE"
position and the parking brake will not prevent the mower
from moving. If the following procedures do not allow you
to engage the parking brake properly, contact your Scag
dealer for further brake adjustments.
1. Park the machine on a flat surface and block the
caster wheels to prevent the machine from moving.
Remove the ignition key.
2. Engage the parking brake. Fully depress the brake
pedal and pull the parking brake lock latch back to
lock the parking brake. See Figure 6-1.
3. Loosen the jam nut at the front of the brake linkage.
See Figure 6-2.
4. With the parking brake in the locked position, turn
the adjustment nut until the brake spring has an
overall length of 2". See Figure 6-2.
5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 on the other side of the
machine.
6. Test the parking brake.
- NOTE -
If this procedure does not achieve proper brake
adjustment, please contact your authorized Scag
dealer.
