FEATURES - OPERATIONS

FILLING WATER TANK

Be sure the humidifier is switched off.
Select a location for your humidifier, on a flat level surface about 4 inch away from the wall. DO NOT place the humidifier on a finished floor or near furniture, which can be damaged by too much moisture or water. Place on a moisture resistant surface.
Remove the tank from the humidifier base.
Bring the tank to the sink, turn upside down and twist off the tank cap by turning counter clockwise. Fill tank with cool, fresh tap water (see Figure 1). DO NOT fill with warm water as this may cause leaking. Replace the cap on tank FIRMLY. The tank will approximately 1/2 gallon of water.
Place tank back into the humidifier base. The tank will immediately begin to empty into the base.
Plug the humidifier into a 120V electrical outlet.

USING THE AROMTHERAPY TRAY

Your Holmes ® Ultrasonic Humidifier includes an Aromatherapy Tray that is compatible with essential oils or VICKS ® VapoPads ® * Refill Scent Pads for maximum comfort.

Locate the Aromatherapy Tray on back side of the Humidifier Base (See Figure 1).
Pull the tray handle to expose the full aromatherapy pad.
Place 3-4 drops of essential oil directly onto the pad or place the VICKS ® VapoPads ® * Refill Scent Pads into the tray.
Push the Aromatherapy Tray back into the closed position.

VapoPads ® Refill Scent Pads Recommended Usage

Not recommended for infants under 10 pounds.
For children between 10-22 pounds, do not use more than 2 pads in a 24 hour period.

Do not rub face or eyes after touching scent pad. Do not put fingers in mouth after touching scent pad. Oils in the pad could act as an irritant to eyes.

Keep scented aromatherapy pads out of reach of children.
NOTE: Refer to VICKS ® VapoPads ® package for usage directions and warnings.

OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS

To turn the unit on, press the Power Button. The humidifier will run at High setting and the Indicator Light will illuminate in BLUE. Press the button again and the humidifier will run at Medium setting and the Indicator Light will illuminate in GREEN. Press the button again and the humidifier will run at Low setting and the Indicator Light will illuminate in ORANGE. Another press of the button will turn the unit and Indicator Light OFF.
Rotate the Mist Nozzle to the desired mist direction.
When the humidifier runs out of water, the transducer and fan will automatically shut off.
Once the tank is empty, the Indicator Light will illuminate in RED indicating that the humidifier is in low water level condition. Unplug the unit.
Before refilling the tank, empty any residual water from the base and tank. Follow daily maintenance instructions.
Follow the FILLING WATER TANK instructions to fill tank, and then operate the humidifier normally.

NOTE: DO NOT move the humidifier with water in the tank or the humidifier base. The moving action of the water may activate the water tank's release nozzle and overfill the transducer cavity. This may cause the humidifier to function intermittently, or stop emitting mist. Should this occur, simply remove the excess water from the humidifier base.

If you do not plan to use your humidifier for two or more days, make sure any residual water is drained from the water tank and base to prevent any algae or bacteria growth in stagnant water. Make sure the tank is dry.
NOTE: To avoid white dust use only distilled water especially if A) you suffer from respiratory problems or B) you live in an area where the water has a high mineral content.

CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTIONS

Humidifiers provide comfort by adding moisture to dry, heated indoor air. To benefit most from the humidifier and avoid product misuse, follow all instructions carefully. Please note that this is an electrical appliance and requires attention when in use.
In addition, if you do not follow the recommended care and maintenance guidelines, micro-organisms may be able to grow in the water within the humidifier's tank. You must routinely follow the cleaning procedures that follow in order to ensure proper, efficient operation of your humidifier. Proper maintenance and cleaning is essential to the continued performance of your unit and the avoidance of algae or bacteria build-up.
This appliance has no user serviceable parts. Any servicing beyond that described in the Cleaning Section should be performed by an Authorized Service Representative only. See warranty available online.

DAILY MAINTENANCE

Be sure the unit is OFF and is disconnected from the electrical outlet
Remove the tank from the humidifier and place in sink or tub.
Drain any remaining water and rinse thoroughly to remove any sediment or dirt. Wipe clean and dry with a clean cloth or paper towel.
Refill with cool tap water. Do not overfill.

WEEKLY MAINTENANCE

To Remove Scale:

Repeat steps 1-3 above.
Clean all surfaces with a soft brush. Gently scrub the area around the transducer with a soft brush. Remove the scale by wiping the entire base with a cloth dampened with undiluted white vinegar.
Rinse clean with warm water to remove cleaning solution before disinfecting the tank.

To Disinfect Tank

Fill humidifier tank 1/2 full with water and 1/2 tablespoon of chlorine bleach.
Let the solution stand for 20 minutes, swishing every few minutes. Wet all surfaces.
Carefully empty the tank after 20 minutes, and rinse with warm water until you can not detect any bleach smell. Dry with a clean cloth or paper towel.
Refill the water tank as directed in Operating Instructions, and turn the unit on.

To Clean Aromatherapy Tray:

Turn off and unplug your humidifier.
Pull the tray handle to expose the full aromatherapy pad.
Remove the aromatherapy pad from the tray. If using the VICKS ® VapoPads ® * Refill Scent Pads, gently remove old scent pad and discard.
Wash the in-unit aromatherapy pad thoroughly with warm water and mild soap to remove any residual essential oils.

STORAGE INSTRUCTIONS

When not using your humidifier for an extended period of time:

Clean, rinse and thoroughly dry the humidifier as directed in weekly maintenance. DO NOT leave any water in the unit when storing. Leaving water in the unit may render the unit inoperable for the following season.
Place the humidifier in the original carton and store in a cool, dry place.

TROUBLESHOOTING

TROUBLE	PROBABLE CAUSE	SOLUTION
Power light not illuminated	Unit not plugged in.	Plug in Unit.
Water Leaks from tank	Tank rubber ring is missing. Cap not tight enough. Tank water is Hot.	Remove tank cap and replace or reposition ring. Tighten the cap. Fill with cool water only. Do not move when full.
Crack in Tank	Hot water will cause tank to pressurize. Tanks will crack if hit or dropped.	Fill with cool water only. Handle tank with Care.
Film on tank	Mineral deposits.	Clean/disinfect tank as instructed in weekly cleaning instructions.
Fan on, but no Mist	Setting too low. Might be running out of water.	Switch to High setting. Fill tank with cool water.
Appearance of minerals or white dust	Tap water contains minerals that collect inside your humidifier. When the minerals are released into the air they often appear as white dust on your furniture.	Use distilled water in your humidifier. This will help reduce the precipitation of minerals or 'white dust'.

What are the variables that affect run time	The estimated run time for this humidifier is based on average room conditions. The actual run time of your humidifier is dependent on numerous variables such as: Air exchange in the room where the humidifier is placed. Room construction of the room where the humidifier is placed. Temperature of the room where the humidifier is placed. Humidity levels in the room where the humidifier is placed. Movement of occupants and the opening and closing of doors in the room where the humidifier is placed. Home furnishings in the room where the humidifier is placed.
How do I remove film on water tank	See Daily Maintenance instructions. Regular cleaning is recommended.
How can I extend the run time	Run your unit on the lowest setting. If your unit has electronics, set it to your desired humidity level. The unit will turn on and off, which will extend the run time. Fill the tank all the way full, place it on the base, let the water empty into the base until it stops bubbling, then refill the tank full again. This ensures maximum water capacity and will extend run time.

When using electrical appliances, basic safety precautions should always be followed to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, and injury to persons, including the following:

Read all instructions before using the appliance.
To protect against electric shock, do not place or immerse cord, plugs, or appliance in water or other liquid. Do not plug in the cord with wet hands. Do not overfill the water tank.
Plug the appliance directly into a 120VAC electrical outlet.
This appliance is not intended for use by children or by persons with reduced physical, sensory, or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge. Close supervision is necessary when any appliance is used near children. Children should be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the appliance. Keep the appliance and its cord out of reach of children.
Never place humidifier in an area where it is accessible to children. Never use humidifier in a closed room, particularly where a child may be sleeping, resting, or playing (a closed room may result in excessive humidity).
Keep the cord out of heavy traffic areas. To reduce risk of fire, never put the cord under rugs or near heat registers.
Do not operate any appliance with a damaged cord or plug or after the appliance malfunctions, or has been damaged in any manner. Do not attempt to replace or splice a damaged cord. Return appliance to the manufacturer (see warranty) for examination, repair or adjustment.
Do not place on or near wet surfaces, or near heat sources such as stoves, radiators, and heaters.
Place your humidifier on an inside wall near an electrical outlet. The humidifier should be at least 4 inches (10 cm) away from the wall for best results.
Do not attempt to refill humidifier without first unplugging the unit from its electrical outlet. Failure to heed this warning may cause personal injury.
Unplug from outlet when not in use, before putting on or taking off parts and before cleaning. To disconnect, turn any control to OFF, then unplug power cord from outlet. Be sure to unplug the unit by pulling on the plug and not the cord.
Do not block air inlet or outlet. Never drop or insert any object into any openings. Do not place hands, face or body directly over or near the outlet while unit is in operation.
Do not use outdoors or for commercial purposes.
Do not use appliance for other than intended use. Misuse can cause injuries.
Always place humidifier on a dry, stable, level surface.
Failure to clean device per the cleaning instructions in the Cleaning Section may result in overheating or fire. This humidifier requires daily and weekly maintenance to operate appropriately. Refer to daily and weekly cleaning procedures. Use only cleaners and additives recommended by the manufacturer. Never use gasoline, glass cleaner, furniture polish, paint thinner, or other household solvents to clean any part of the humidifier.
Never tilt, move, or attempt to empty unit while it is operating. Shut off and unplug before removing the water tank and moving the unit. Use both hands when carrying a full tank of water. Do not move unit after it has been used until unit cools completely.
Do not use humidifier in an area where humidity level is in excess of 50%. Use a hygrometer, available at your local retailer, to measure the humidity.
Never operate unit without water in the tank. Do not pour water in any openings other than the water tank.
CHOKING HAZARD - Humidifier contains small parts. Keep aromatherapy tray and scented aromatherapy pads out of reach of children.

POLARIZED PLUG

This appliance has a polarized plug, (one blade is wider than the other). As a safety feature to reduce the risk of electrical shock, this plug is intended to fit in a polarized outlet only one way. If the plug does not fit fully in the outlet, reverse the plug. If it still does not fit, contact a qualified electrician. Do not attempt to defeat this safety feature or modify the plug in any way. If the plug fits loosely into the AC outlet or if the AC outlet feels warm do not use that outlet.

NOTICES

Do not allow the Moisture Outlet to directly face the wall. Moisture could cause damage, particularly to wallpaper.
Keep unit away from surfaces that can be damaged by water and/or heat (such as wood floors). Place mat underneath the unit during use. Do not place humidifier under overhanging surfaces.
Do not place the humidifier on a rug or carpet. The heat sink underneath the humidifier might cause the carpet to be discolored and may cause overheating of the unit.
Excessive humidity in a room can cause water condensation on windows and some furniture. If this happens, turn the humidifier OFF.

POWER CORD INSTRUCTIONS

A short power-supply cord or detachable power-supply cord is provided to reduce risks resulting from becoming entangled in or tripping over a longer cord. Longer detachable power-supply cords or extension cords are available and may be used if care is exercised in their use. If a long detachable power-supply cord or extension cord is used on short-cord models:

The marked electrical rating of the detachable powersupply cord or extension cord should be at least as great as the electrical rating of the appliance;
When the product is of the grounded type, the extension cord shall be a grounding type 3-wire cord; and
The longer cord should be arranged so that it will not drape over the counter top or table top where it can be pulled on by children or tripped over unintentionally.

Do not pull, twist or otherwise abuse the power cord.
Do not wrap the power cord around the main body of the appliance during or after use.
