3.7.1
A/C Compressor, Removing and Instal‐
ling on Bracket
Note
On vehicles with 6-cylinder engine, the compressor can be
♦
removed and installed at the bracket without opening the re‐
frigerant lines.
If the vehicle has an 8-cylinder engine or a 12-cylinder TDI
♦
engine, it is necessary to open the refrigerant circuit in order
to remove the A/C compressor. Refer to
⇒ "16.4 Compressor, Removing and Installing (Vehicles with
8-Cylinder FSI Engine)", page 283
inder FSI or 8-Cylinder TDI, Removing and Installing) or
⇒ "16.3 Compressor, Removing and Installing (Vehicles with
12-Cylinder TDI Engine)", page 280
Cylinder TDI, Removing and Installing).
For vehicles with 6-cylinder engine, discharge the refrigerant
♦
circuit only if the compressor is to be removed. Only discon‐
nect refrigerant hoses and lines from the compressor only
when refrigerant circuit has been discharged.
After removal, fasten the compressor using a wire, for exam‐
♦
ple, to a longitudinal member. Never leave hanging from re‐
frigerant pipes.
Before removing ribbed belt, mark the running direction with
♦
chalk or felt-tip pen, a reversed running direction on a used
belt may destroy it. Refer to ⇒ Engine Mechanical; Rep. Gr.
13 ; Cylinder Block, Belt Pulley Side .
Depending on engine and country version, different compres‐
♦
sors can be installed (6-, 8- or 12-cylinder engine, gasoline or
diesel). Refer to the Parts Catalog.
Do not bend, kink or stretch lines or hoses as refrigerant lines
♦
and refrigerant hoses may be damaged.
