Removing
– With vehicles with air suspension, place vehicle on hoist, refer
to ⇒ "4 Positioning Vehicle on Hoist and Wheels", page 10
– Disconnect the harness connector -3-.
– Remove nut -2-.
– Remove screws -1-. Do not bend upper retaining plate when
doing so.
– Remove level control system sensor.
Installing
Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following:
Sensor lever must point outward.
Tightening specifications, refer to
⇒ "4.1 Air Suspension Strut, Upper Control Arm and Level Control
System Sensor Overview", page 57
– With vehicles with air suspension, place vehicle on wheels,
refer to
⇒ "4 Positioning Vehicle on Hoist and Wheels", page 10
– On vehicles with air suspension, readapt control position, refer
to ⇒ "3.10 Control Position, Programming", page 221
– Perform headlamp basic setting, refer to ⇒ Rep. Gr. 94 .

Installing
General Information
Vehicles with level control and/or gas discharge lamps have
standard automatic headlamp range control ⇒ Rep. Gr. 94 .
To function properly, the level control and automatic headlamp
range control system need information about compression travel
or rebound travel at the front and rear axles.
The location of the upper left/right control arm relative to the body
is transferred via a connecting link to the Left Rear Level Control
System Sensor - G76- and Right Rear Level Control System Sen‐
sor - G77- . This transmit electrical signals to the Right HID
Headlamp Control Module - J344- / Left HID Headlamp Control
Module - J343- .
Right HID Headlamp Control Module - J344- / Left HID Headlamp
Control Module - J343- , servicing, refer to ⇒ Rep. Gr. 94 .
At the rear axle, these signals from Left Front Level Control Sys‐
tem Sensor - G78- and Right Front Level Control Sensor - G289-
are transmitted to the Right HID Headlamp Control Module -
J344- / Left HID Headlamp Control Module - J343- .
These signals are required for determining vehicle level.
The headlamp range control responds automatically to changes
in the vehicle level.
The vehicle level can change in the following situations:
♦ Trailer Mode
♦ Different load conditions; vehicle empty, vehicle partially or
fully loaded
