Prepare

Check the package contents

  1. Comes with memory and a rechargeable battery, both of which are built in. Memory cards can not be used. Versions of this camera sold destined for the Japanese market support English and Japanese only. Other languages are not supported.
  2. A plug adapter is supplied in countries or regions where required.

If a plug adapter is included, attach it securely to the charging AC adapter; note that once the adapter is attached, attempting to forcibly remove the plug adapter could damage the product. Shape of plug adapter varies with country or region of purchase. This step can be omitted if the plug adapter comes permanently bonded to the charging AC adapter.

Charge the camera

Use the supplied charging AC adapter when charging the camera for the first time. Turn the camera off, connect the supplied USB cable to the camera and charging AC adapter, and then plug in the adapter as shown below. Charging takes about 2 hours and 50 minutes; when charging is complete, unplug the charging AC adapter and disconnect the USB cable.

Using the Touch Panel


Tap: Tap the monitor.


Drag and drop: Touch an item in the display, drag it to the desired location ( ), and lift your finger from the monitor ( ).


Drag: Drag a finger over the monitor.


Touch and hold: Touch the monitor and leave your finger in place for a short period.

Get the camera ready

  1. Turn the camera on.
  2. Choose a language.
    Tap the desired language. When prompted to choose whether to set the camera clock, tap Yes.
  3. Set the clock.
    Tap or to highlight your home time zone (to turn daylight saving time on or off, tap ) and tap .
    Tap to select a date format when prompted.

    Tap to highlight items and tap or to change. Tapping displays a confirmation dialog; tap Yes to set the clock.
  4. Choose a HOME design.
    Tap a design and tap I. The camera exits to the HOME display when setup is complete.

Shoot

  1. Tap Shooting.
    Tap Shooting in the HOME display.
  2. Frame the shot.
    Ready the camera and frame the shot, using the zoom control to zoom in or out.
  3. Focus and shoot.
    Press the shutter-release button halfway to lock focus and exposure (the focus area will light green when the camera focuses), then press the button the rest of the way down to take the picture.

View

Viewing Pictures

Press the button to display a picture in the monitor. Tap or to view additional images.

Deleting Pictures

  1. Touch and hold the picture until is displayed.
  2. Tap or drag and drop the picture onto the icon.
  3. Tap Yes.

Printing Pictures

The camera can be connected to a PictBridge-compatible printer using the supplied USB cable and pictures printed directly from the camera.

Configure

Camera settings can be adjusted from the HOME display. To view the HOME display, touch the button.
Configuration

Connect

Install ViewNX 2 to upload, view, edit, and share photos and movies. An Internet connection is required. Download the ViewNX 2 installer from the website listed below and follow the on-screen instructions.

Using ViewNX 2

  1. Turn the camera off and connect it to the computer using the supplied USB cable.

  2. Launch the Nikon Transfer 2 component of ViewNX 2.
  3. Click Start Transfer and wait for Nikon Transfer 2 to finish copying pictures from the camera to the computer.
  4. Turn the camera off and disconnect the USB cable.

Unless otherwise stated, all figures assume a fully-charged battery and an ambient temperature of 23 ±3°C (73.4 ±5.4°F) as specified by the Camera and Imaging Products Association (CIPA).

  1. Battery endurance varies with use, the interval between shots, and the length of time menus and images are displayed.
  2. Individual movie files can not exceed 29 minutes in length or 4 GB in size. Recording may end before this limit is reached if camera temperature becomes elevated.
