Installing the 8248-L4T, 8408-E8D, or 9109-RMD processor voltage
regulator module
Use this procedure to install a new or an upgraded processor voltage regulator module.
Attention: If you are servicing a failing part, see the service procedures for "Removing the 8248-L4T,
8408-E8D, or 9109-RMD processor voltage regulator module" on page 5 and "Replacing the 8248-L4T,
8408-E8D, or 9109-RMD processor voltage regulator module" on page 8. The following installation
procedure is intended for installing a new or upgraded voltage regulator module.
Before installing or replacing a feature, ensure that the software required to support the feature is
installed on your system. For information about software prerequisites, see IBM Prerequisite
(http://www-912.ibm.com/e_dir/eServerPrereq.nsf). If the required software is not installed, see the
following websites to download and then install the software before continuing:
v To download firmware and software updates and fixes, see Fix Central (http://www.ibm.com/
support/fixcentral).
v To download Hardware Management Console (HMC) updates and fixes, see Hardware Management
Console Support and downloads (http://www14.software.ibm.com/webapp/set2/sas/f/hmcl/
home.html).
If your system is managed by the HMC, use the HMC to install the processor voltage regulator module
in the server. For instructions, see Installing a part by using the Hardware Management Console.
If you do not have an HMC, complete the following steps to install a voltage regulator module:
1. Identify the system that you will be working on and turn on the system locate (blue) indicator. For
instructions, see Enabling enclosure indicators and Control panel LEDs.
2. Use the service indicator light-emitting diodes (LEDs) to help identify the part. For instructions, see
Identifying a part.
3. Complete the prerequisite tasks. For instructions, see "Before you begin" on page 18.
