System description Pipe system components 3.4.8 Blowing-out unit Deposits at the aspirating holes of the pipe system affect air aspiration and have the potential to trigger an alarm. Use compressed air to blow out and clean the pipe system. This will remove deposits from the aspirating holes and capillary tubes.

Planning Designing the pipe system 4.3 Designing the pipe system Take the following into account for an effective design: ● Pipe length ● Number of aspirating holes ● End cap hole ● Number and radius of bends ● Number of pipes ●...
Planning Applying standards 4.5 Applying standards Each aspirating hole corresponds to the position of a conventional smoke detector. 1. Check whether the applicable standards have been taken into account sufficiently before you start to plan and install. 2. Take the movements of air in the room into account. 3.
Planning Monitoring area grid 4.6 Monitoring area grid 1. Place a grid (2) showing the aspirating holes (1) over the monitoring area. Fig. 13: Deciding on the locations of the aspirating holes 2. Decide on the locations and topology of the pipes. Fig.
Planning Pipe system topology 4.7 Pipe system topology Choose a suitable topology for the pipe system, taking the following criteria into account: Property Note Pipe length Short pipe length = short response time Number of bends Fewer bends = better laminar flow Number of branches Each branch connects airflows Number of aspirating holes...
Page 32
Planning Pipe system Symmetrical layout Advantages of a symmetrical layout: ● Same number of aspirating holes on each pipework branch ● Pipework branches are the same length (tolerance ±10 %) ● Same gap between adjacent aspirating holes (tolerance ±10 %) Asymmetrical layout The structural conditions may necessitate an asymmetrical layout.

Planning Limits to planning 4.9 Limits to planning Observe local regulations and specifications for the limits of the detection range of the aspirating holes. The local regulations and specifications take priority over all other information in this document. Observe the planning rules in the relevant standards and guidelines.
Planning Determining the sensitivity 4.10 Determining the sensitivity The sensitivity for the alarm threshold is set on the aspirating smoke detector. The airflow, which is made up of the air from all the aspirating holes and the end caps, is measured with this sensitivity. The sensitivity at a specific aspirating hole is based on its proportion of the total airflow.
Planning Linear deformation in the pipe system 4.11 Linear deformation in the pipe system The lengths of the pipes change as the temperature varies. ● Temperature increase = pipes lengthen ● Temperature decrease = pipes shorten Mount the pipe fastenings in such a way that the pipes can lengthen and shorten unhindered as the temperature varies.
Planning Pipes on the ceiling 4.12 Pipes on the ceiling Use the pipe system components for mounting. See 'Pipe system components [➙ 22]'. Mount the pipes on the ceiling using plastic clamps. Comply with the following specifications: ● Gap from pipe to ceiling 25…100 mm ●...
Planning Pipes in a false floor or a duct 4.13 Pipes in a false floor or a duct Pipes can be installed in a false floor or a duct. Comply with the following specifications: ● Gap (a) 200 cm maximum ● Gap (a) 30 cm maximum in the event of large temperature variations and strong vibrations ●...
Planning Upright stand pipes 4.14 Upright stand pipes In some cavities or shafts, lines or cables obstruct the free flow of air to the aspirating holes in the pipes. Therefore there must be no aspirating holes in the pipes in these locations. Upright stand pipes are the best way of aspirating the air here.
Planning Ambient conditions 4.16 Ambient conditions Ambient conditions can affect the aspirating behavior of the pipe system. Check the following factors: ● High air speeds ● Frequent change of air ● Fluctuations in air pressure ● Changes in air temperature ●...
Mounting / Installation Mounting principles 5 Mounting / Installation You should finish planning the pipe system before mounting and installing the aspirating smoke detector and the electrical systems and equipment. All pipework must be mounted in accordance with local and national specifications and guidelines. The software 'FXS2056 ASD Asyst‑Tool V3' provides the following data, which is relevant for mounting the pipe system: ●...
Mounting / Installation Mounting the pipe system 3. Deburr any protruding edges. 4. Clean the pipes, remove dirt and grease. 5. Do not glue pipes and components until they have been cleaned and degreased. 6. Only connect parts that match each other exactly. 7.
Mounting / Installation Mounting the pipe system 5.2.2 Connecting pipes and fittings WARNING Adhesive contains readily flammable solvent Risk of fire in case of contact with an open flame or hot surfaces ● Smoke, flames, and naked lights are prohibited when processing the adhesive.
Mounting / Installation Mounting the pipe system 5.2.4 Fastening the pipe system Fasten the pipes with plastic clamps. Use suitable dowels and screws. Ensure there is a sufficiently large gap from the plastic clamps to the aspirating holes; approximate value 100 mm. Leave enough space for the pipes to expand as the temperature varies. Mount the first plastic clamp at least 1 m away from the aspirating smoke detector.
Mounting / Installation Mounting the pipe system Fig. 23: Hole after fitting 5.2.6 Connecting the pipe system to the aspirating smoke detector The pipe system has been mounted. The first 500 mm of a pipe system with an aspirating smoke detector are configured in a straight line so any flow turbulence can settle before the air enters the aspirating smoke detector.
