3-4 Replacing spark plug cap and coil

3-5 Checking coil resistance

IGNITION SYSTEM
1. Disconnect the spark plug cap (A).
2. Drip some oil in the cap (A) to aid in removing
the cap.

3. Remove spark plug cap (A) from high tension
lead (B).
4. Check the coil for correct connection and the cap
for cracks. Replace as required.
NOTE: Make sure the coil contacts the core of the
high tension lead when reinstalling it.
1. Connect one probe of an ohm-meter or a multi-
meter to spark plug cap coil and the other end to
crankcase or a clean ground.
2. Measure the secondary coil resistance. The re-
sistance should be in the range of 1.2 and 1.8 kΩ; if
the value is not in the range, replace with a new
ignition coil.
