Items Required for Tests (one each unless specified):
• 2 – Alesis Masterlink Reference Unit (1 source, 1 destination)
• 2 – Alesis ADAT Optical Cables
• 2 – XLR Male to XLR Female Cables
• 3 – IEC Power Cable
• Function Generator
• Headphones with ¼" Jack
• BNC to BNC cable, 50-Ohm or 75-Ohm characteristic impedance.
Setup / Procedures:
• Connect Source Masterlink DIGITAL BALANCED OUT to RI4 AES/EBU INPUT 1/2
• Connect DUT RI4 AES/EBU OUTPUT 1/2 to Destination Masterlink DIGITAL BALANCED IN
• Connect DUT RI4 ADAT OPTICAL INPUT (CH 5-8) to RI4 ADAT OPTICAL OUTPUT (CH 5-
8)
• Connect DUT RI4 ADAT OPTICAL INPUT CH 1-8 (CH 5-8) to RI4 ADAT OPTICAL OUTPUT
CH 1-8 (CH 5-8)
• Connect Function Generator output to DUT RI4 WCLK IN
• Connect Headphones to Destination Masterlink PHONES output.
• Connect Masterlinks and RI4 to A/C power, turn on Masterlinks while holding down PLAY/PAUSE
and RECORD to reset units to factory defaults. AI4 should power up automatically
• Insert TEST TONE CD into Source Masterlink
• Select CD on the Source Masterlink
Destination Masterlink: Press PLAYLIST

EDIT then NEW TRACK.
DUT AI4: Press AES/EBU TO ADAT

until 1/2 LED is lit.
Destination Masterlink: Press INPUT

Destination Masterlink: Verify "Creating new
track..." is briefly displayed
DUT AI4: Verify that the 1/2 and OPTICAL LEDs
are not flashing, Verify that both 44.1K LEDs are lit
Destination Masterlink: Verify that the DIGITAL
LED is solidly lit (not flashing) and 44.1K LED is
Destination Masterlink: Verify RECORD LED is
Source Masterlink: Verify PLAY LED lit, Verify
"CD Player SONG 01" on VFD
Destination Masterlink: Verify distortion-free audio
