Disinfection and Handling Manual for Dental
Professionals – for shared-handle Power Brush
Trials.
Before using this toothbrush, please read the
following disinfection and handling instructions and
save this manual for future reference. Please also
refer to the separate usage instruction manual for
the toothbrush handle.
Indications for Use: The Oral-B
Brush Trial Program Kit is intended for use as a
power toothbrush to promote good oral hygiene,
including the reduction of dental plaque and the
treatment and prevention of gingivitis.
The Oral-B
Test Drive Power Brush Trial Program

Kit is indicated for use under the supervision of a
dental professional as part of the Oral-B
Power Brush Trial Program.
Put on gloves.

Take the brush handle off the charger and

remove the protective cover.
Hold the brush handle with the buttons facing
3
you and carefully slide it into one of the
protective sheaths from the kit, until the metal
shaft extends through the small opening on the
sheath. Ensure the opening of the sheath is
even with the top of the orange rod.
Remove the back paper off the sheath.

Close the sheath at the bottom by peeling away
5
the tape to expose adhesive, then fold it across
the bottom of the handle and seal the sheath
closed.
If the sheath is damaged in any way, discard it
and place a new sheath on the handle being
careful not to damage or pierce the sheath.
Take a new brush head and place it onto the

handle. The brush head will fit over the top of
the sheath. Slide the brush head all the way
down onto the handle until it fits tightly. Verify
that there is no gap between the brush head
and the collar of the handle.
Before use, wet the brush head with water.

Provide brushing instructions to the patient and
allow them to brush.
Note: Please refer to the separate usage
instructions for the toothbrush.
Recommend to the patient to brush over a sink

in front of a mirror. Allow 2 full minutes for the
trial.

handling the toothbrush after it has been used
by the patient.
Carefully open the sheath at the bottom. Hold
9
the handle upside-down to prevent saliva from
running down the clean handle. Peel the sheath
down over the brush head and remove both
the sheath and brush head by pulling them off
together. Dispose of both sheath and brush
head properly.
To clean and disinfect the handle after each

patient trial, use Opti-Cide 3
Wipes and Liquid Disinfection Solution.
Note: Do not put in autoclave
1. Cleaning and Disinfection Step 1: Wipe
Using a disinfection wipe, wrap the wipe
around the handle and wipe the handle and
shaft up and down for 15 seconds, ensuring
that all surfaces are cleaned. Repeat, using
a 2
clean disinfection wipe for 15 seconds,
nd
ensuring that all surfaces are cleaned.
2. Cleaning and Disinfection Step 2: Immerse
Place the handle in a 1-gallon plastic zipper
bag, so that it is laying flat (horizontal). Take
care that the metal tip does not pierce the
bag. Fill the bag with the disinfection solution
so that the handle is fully covered with
solution. Carefully seal the bag.
3. Cleaning and Disinfection Step 3: Ultrasonic
Place the sealed zipper bag in the ultrasonic
bath and turn it on for 3 minutes. Lay the top
of the bag over the edge of the ultrasonic
unit so that the top of the bag will not
submerge. Put on the lid to hold the bag in
place.
At the end of 3 minutes, remove the zipper
bag from the ultrasonic bath. Open the bag
and remove the handle.
Dispose of the disinfection solution and
plastic zipper bag after each use.
Rinse the handle with sterile or de-ionized water.

Wipe the handle with a 70% isopropyl alcohol
wipe, to aid in drying the handle.
Lay the handle on a paper towel and allow it to

air-dry.
Place the cleaned and disinfected handle in
e
a protective cover and then place onto the
charger somewhere dry and clean until the
next patient trial.
Note: Store and use at room temperature
(60–95 °F).
Note: A damaged or non-functioning unit/
toothbrush should no longer be used. Do not
