Wahl DSTCAL Software User Manual 1. INTRODUCTION This software package is for use with the DST400, DST/DSX500 and DST600 family of Digital Thermometers. There are 2 versions of software, one for customer use and one for use by the factory. The version is indicated on the first line under the “Poll for Module”...
Wahl DSTCAL Software User Manual 2. DSTCAL KIT INSTALLATION AND SETUP 2.1. Kit Contents The DSTCAL Kit is delivered with a CD-ROM that includes the following files: Application files Autorun.inf DSTCAL.application Setup.exe WD1035 – DSTCAL Load Instructions ...
User installation installs the DSTCAL version. Key for DSTCAL-Pro is only available for the factory. Check for updates – Checks the Wahl Instruments website (www.palmerwahl.com) to see if there are updates available and reports status of your software. Software will prompt you to download new software if it is available.

Serial number: Identifies serial number of PCB, programmable on DSTCAL-Pro only. LCD Refresh: Sets update period for the LCD. 1 period = 250 mS, thus, LCD Refresh: 2 = 500 mS or 0.5 second update rate for LCD.

Wahl DSTCAL Software User Manual 2) Probe (system) Calibration – Performs the calibration of the RTD probe to the meter electronics. This method can be performed when equipment to measure the probes R0 value is not available. This should not be performed if the R0 value is manually entered into the R0 field.
The first system is comprised of the meter electronics. The meter calibration is performed so that the meter will measure resistance accurately. This is accomplished by using known, fixed resistances of a specified accuracy. Wahl recommends using resistances with a known accuracy equal to or greater than 0.009 ohms. The calibration routine also allows entry of the exact resistance.

Wahl DSTCAL Software User Manual Press yes to return R0 to its original value or press no to leave R0 set to 100.00 ohms. 4.3. Probe Calibration There are two methods of calibrating the probe to the meter. The first method is done without the aid of the “Probe (system) Calibration”...
Wahl DSTCAL Software User Manual 8. Software will display “Probe Calibration Success” window. 9. Click OK 10. Software will return to main screen and new value will be loaded into the R0 register and window. 4.4. Error Windows The following error box may occur when in the Meter Only Calibration routine and if the input resistance is not within approximately 4 ohms of the requested nominal setting.
Wahl DSTCAL Software User Manual 5. SCREEN DEFINITIONS - DSX Models: Additionally to the previous standard definitions the DSX model software contains the following, reference Fig. 2: Module Configuration Information Module settings for S/N xxxxxxxx: 4 mA Temp. (C): 0.0: Shows the equivalent current setting for the 4-mA output in F or C.

Wahl DSTCAL Software User Manual 6. CALIBRATION – DSX Current Loop 6.1. Theory of Calibration Calibration of the 4-20 mA current loop is performed by selecting the “4-20 mA Calibration” on the drop down menu and following the on-screen prompts. This routine performs calibration of the absolute current.
Wahl DSTCAL Software User Manual 7. DST600 PROBE ID 7.1. Theory of Operation Probe ID allows a specific probe to be associated with a specific meter. The meter will only display a temperature when it has the correct probe connected to it. The primary reason for this association is that in case of a failed probe, it helps prevent someone from replacing the probe without going through a calibration process.
Wahl DSTCAL Software User Manual Probe ID: 0536B5120000 - Displays serial number of current probe with which the module is associated. Enable Probe ID: Not Enabled Enable Probe ID Shows current status of Probe ID Capture - Used to associate a new probe with the DST600.

Millivolt Calibration: Used to calibrate the mV measurement capabilities of the meter. This is performed by inserting known millivolt signals via copper wires to the DST400 input connector. If this calibration is going to be performed, it must be performed before the Cold Junction Calibration, as Millivolt Calibration will alter the Cold Junction Calibration.
Meter Calibration is performed to ensure that the meter will measure mV signals accurately. This is accomplished by using known, DC millivolt signals of a specified accuracy. Wahl recommends using mV signal generators with a known accuracy equal to or better than ± 6.0µV and thermocouple emissions of ±0.30°C (includes CJC) at 25°C.

Wahl DSTCAL Software User Manual 9.3. Cold Junction Compensation Calibration Window Selecting Standard Thermocouple Input Screen 1. Prompts user to “Connect appropriate Thermocouple Standard to Meter Input”. This must be with the same type of wire as the DST4xx meter is set to, ie. if meter is set to Type K, you must use Type K wire.
