Diskette drive problems

Symptom
The diskette drive activity LED
stays lit, or the computer
bypasses the diskette drive.

Hard disk drive problems

Symptom
Not all drives are recognized by
the hard disk drive diagnostic
test (the Fixed Disk test).
The computer stops responding
during the hard disk drive
diagnostic test.

Keyboard, mouse, or pointing-device problems

Symptom
All or some keys on the
keyboard do not work.
The mouse or pointing device
does not work.

Suggested action
v If there is a diskette in the drive, make sure that:
– The diskette drive is enabled in the Configuration/Setup utility program.
– The diskette is good and not damaged. (Try another diskette if you have
one.)
– The diskette is inserted correctly in the drive.
– The diskette contains the necessary files to start the computer.
– The software program is working correctly.
– The cable is installed correctly (in the proper orientation).
v To prevent diskette drive read/write errors, make sure that the distance between
monitors and diskette drives is at least 75 mm (3 in.).
If the problem remains, call for service.
Suggested action
1. Remove the first drive that is not recognized and try the hard disk drive
diagnostic test again.
2. If the remaining drives are recognized, replace the drive that you removed with
a new one.
If the problem remains, call for service.

responding and try the diagnostic test again.

v Make sure that the mouse device drivers are installed correctly.
v Make sure that the computer and the monitor are turned on.
