TROUBLESHOOTING: Before Calling for Service
If, after working through the above steps, your transmitter still has a
short battery life, a call for service may be necessary.
Check to see if the probe is disconnected from the APEX Oximeter or if
the sensor is defective.
Check the quality of the patient connection and the condition of the probe
Check to see of the probe is off of the patient or if the sensor is defective.
A low battery condition is indicated by the APEX Oximeter displays
flashing and a message at the Central Display. If the batteries are
not changed within one hour, the oximeter's display flashes dashes,
the sensor LED turns off, and no data displays on the Central
Display.
Install a fresh set of alkaline AA batteries into the oximeter and then
verify battery life.
Once used in an oximeter for any length of time, used batteries
should be disposed of (recycled) immediately.
Batteries must not be re-used. Batteries should be used for only one
patient. Do not store used batteries for use with the next patient. A
battery contains a finite amount of stored energy. Each unit of time a
battery is used diminishes the amount of stored energy. Installing a
used battery in an oximeter results in a greatly reduced, and
unpredictable, monitoring period.
Never use a battery beyond the recommended expiration date for the
battery. The amount of stored energy in the battery may not be
sufficient for proper monitoring.
Rechargeable batteries should not be used. The oximeter circuitry
was designed for the power output characteristics of alkaline
batteries.
NOTE
Rechargeable batteries do not store as much energy as
alkaline batteries and have very different output
characteristics. The monitoring period may be greatly
shortened and the specified low-battery warnings may be
adversely affected or possibly not even displayed.
If, after working through the above steps, your oximeter still has a
short battery life, a call for service may be necessary.
