Chapter 3. Installation and Mounting

3.1 Carrier Installation

The CEP Carrier and Expansion Carrier can be mounted on a DIN-rail or a panel. As shown in Figure 6, adequate
installation space is required for:
1.
Clearance for communications port cables.
2.
Power wiring
3.
Operating the DIN latch.
Note:
You may need to allow more space for installation of cables and connectors than what is
required for heat dissipation. To avoid impacting mechanical reliability and signal quality,
cable installation must comply with the minimum bend radius specified by the cable
manufacturer.
The RX3i CEP Carriers with I/O modules attached require an enclosure with minimum depth
of 16 5 mm.
Rated thermal specifications are based on a clearance of 5.1 cm (2 in) above and below the equipment and
2.54 cm (1 in) to the left of the RX3i CEP Carrier.

Installation Requirements

This product is intended for use with the RX3i system. Its components are considered open equipment (having
live electrical parts that may be accessible to users) and must be installed in an ultimate enclosure that is
manufactured to provide safety. At a minimum, the enclosure shall provide a degree of protection against solid
objects as small as 12 mm (0.47 in)(fingers, for example). This equates to a NEMA/UL Type 1 enclosure or an
IEC60529 IP20 rating providing at least a pollution degree 2 environment. For details about installing RX3i rack
systems, refer to the PACSystems RX3i System Manual, GFK-2314.
