Electrical System

IMPORTANT: Refer to the Safety section of this manual for
CZ
detailed battery servicing safety information.
The electrical system is a 12 volt, negative ground. The rec-
ommended battery size is:
Garden tractor BCI group U1R with a 225 or better
cranking AMP rating
DA
A maintenance-free battery is recommended. Otherwise,
follow battery manufacturer's maintenance, safety, storing
and charging specifications.
Master in-line fuse
DE
These mowers have a master in-line fuse in the electrical
system. This is the main fuse to protect the complete electri-
cal system. It is located below the right front of the fuel tank.

Hydraulic System

IMPORTANT: Any maintenance operation that requires
the removal of safety covers must be performed by a trained
service technician.
NL
This mower is equipped with two integrated hydrostatic
transmissions (transaxles).
IMPORTANT: Never use hydraulic or automatic transmis-
sion fluid in this system; use only the specified motor oil.
Remember, dirt is the primary enemy of any hydraulic sys-
tem.
PT
Use SAE 20W50 motor oil, 15W50 synthetic oil, or 20W50
synthetic oil when changing the system oil and filter. However,
for maximum transmission life use Hustler
20W50.
The hydraulic expansion tank is located behind the left rear
SV
corner of the engine. Figure 4-2

Check the oil level in the hydraulic system after every 50
hours of operation or weekly, whichever occurs first. Check
more often if the system appears to be leaking or otherwise
malfunctioning.
When the hydraulic system oil is cold, the fluid level should
be at the "Full Cold" line on the expansion tank.
Initial system oil and filter change must be after the first 75
hours of use or 1 year whichever comes first. Thereafter,
replace filter and oil in each transaxle every 2 years or 200
hours, whichever comes first.
NOTE: The filter guard must be removed to access the fil-
ter. Figure 4-3
Each transaxle's filter is located per Figure 4-3. A standard
oil filter wrench is used to change filter; threads are right
handed. Use a Hustler
approved filter element only.
®
IMPORTANT: When washing the mower, direct the spray
away (especially if using a power washer) from the tran-
saxle's seals to prevent water intrusion and to ensure compo-
nent performance.
