Foreword
The RC A C O SM A C M icroboard C om puter Developm ent
Systems (M C D S) CDP18S693 and CD P18S694 are econom i
cal and versatile systems capable of facilitating the design and
developm ent of the hardw are and software for applications
based on the RCA 1800 series of CM O S m icroprocessor
products. With the optional Run-tim e BASIC available on
RO M , and with the addition, if needed, of any of the m any
available expansion M icroboards, the M C D S may be used
very effectively for co n tro l, testing, or o th er d edicated
m icrocom puter applications.
The CDP18S693 includes an eight-card chassis with case, a 5-
volt power supply, a CDP18S601 M icroboard Com puter, a
CDP18S652 M icroboard C om bination M em ory and Tape
I/O C ontrol M odule augm ented with a RO M -based m onitor
program and a RO M -based extended BASIC3 interpreter, an
audio cassette m agnetic tape system for m em ory storage, and
the cables needed for connecting a data term inal and for
connecting the cassette drive system to the CDP18S652.
The 2-kilobyte m onitor program UT62 enables the user to
modify and exam ine m em ory, debug program s, store and
retrieve data on tape, and start execution of program s. The
BASIC3 interpreter (12 kilobytes) features full floating-point
arithm etic, line editing capability, and "trace" debugging for
program creation. The audio cassette tape system provides for
econom ical storage and retrieval of program s or data.
The CDP18S694 has all the features of the CDP18S693 plus
the follow ing. In an a d d itio n a l th ree-R O M set on the
CDP18S652, a text editor and Level I assem bler are provided
that enable the user to create CDP1802 m achine language
program s in Level I m nem onic language.
A PR O M Program m er M odule is also provided along with
a control program on cassette tape that enables the user to
program a wide variety of E P R O M 's. A second audio cassette
drive is included to su p p o rt the e d ito r and assem bler
operations.
This M anual describes in detail the hardw are structure and
the software features and com m ands of the M icroboard
C om puter D evelopm ent Systems (M C D S) CDP18S693 and
CDP18S694. F or a description of BASIC3, the user should
refer to the manual BASIC3 High-Level-Language Interpreter
CDP18S841 User Manual, MPM-841. The user should also refer to
the User Manual for the CDP1802 COSMAC Microprocessor,
MPM-201, for a detailed description of the instruction set and the
architecture of the CDP1802 COSMAC Microprocessor.
