Zooming in Closer on Subjects (Digital Zoom)
When distant subjects are too far away to enlarge using the optical zoom, use
digital zoom for enlargement up to the following zoom factors.
A4000 IS
Up to approx. 32x
A3400 IS
A2400 IS
Zoom Factor
Zoomed images may look grainy, under some resolution settings
(p. 62) and zoom factors. In this case, the zoom factor is shown in
blue.
Focal length when optical and digital zoom are combined is as follows (35mm
film equivalent).
A4000 IS
28 – 896 mm (28 – 224 mm with optical zoom alone)
A3400 IS
28 – 560 mm (28 – 140 mm with optical zoom alone)

Move the zoom lever toward i.
Hold the lever until zooming stops.
Zooming stops at the largest possible zoom
factor (before the image becomes grainy),
which is displayed when you release the
zoom lever.
Move the zoom lever toward i
again.
The camera zooms in even closer on the
subject, using digital zoom.
