To recover system functionality, you can use the System Restore utility or the
recovery discs included with your notebook. Recovering functionality through
System Restore preserves all of your personal data and settings and is a
reversible procedure. Repairing device drivers and applications by using
Driver Recovery or Application Recovery discs also preserves your personal
data and settings.
If you use the Operating System disc to
Repair your operating system, your data and settings are preserved.
Reinstall your operating system, your data, settings, and installed
software are deleted.
For best results, attempt to recover optimal notebook functionality by
following the procedures in this appendix in the order provided.

Safeguarding your data

Software or devices added to the notebook can cause your system to
become unstable. To safeguard your documents, store your personal files
in the My Documents folder and periodically create a backup copy of
My Documents.
