8. Install Additional Software if needed
• Close any open programs, applications, or utilities Insert software application disc into media drive.
• Open the application folder, select the set-up icon, and load desired software.
• Restart your computer.
9. Create backup media with myRecovery
• Click on the [MyRecovery] icon to create backup recovery media and application discs.
• Look in the "Saving and Recovering Your Factory and System Images" guide for more
detailed instructions.

10. Restoring Your System

• The original factory system is stored in a hidden partition on your hard disk drive to keep it safe. For
instructions on restoring the factory system, please follow the instructions in the "Recovering Your Factory
and System Images" manual that is bundled separately with your system.
• On your desktop, there is a Backup Drivers & Apps icon that allows you to back up and restore your
drivers and applications by fi rst backing them up to a disc on an external drive. You are strongly
encouraged to make a backup of the drivers and applications in the event of hard disk failure.
If you ever need to reinstall any drivers or applications, and you have not made a backup of
the drivers and applications you will need to download them from the Fujitsu Support website:
http://www.computers.us.fujitsu.com/support.
• More detailed information is also available in your User's Guide on backing up your drivers and applications.
11. Access your User's Guide
• Your electronic User's Guide contains important detailed information about your
new computer. You can access your User's Guide by selecting its icon
from the screen desktop.
• The Fujitsu Installer will automatically launch.
• Click [Continue].
• Select "I Agree" and click [Continue] in the License Agreement box.
• Select "User's Guide" from the "Utilities/Applications" category.
• Click [Install Selected Subsystems].
• The User's Guide will be copied to your hard drive in the C:\Fujitsu\Manual directory. Shortcuts
to the User's Guide will be placed on your desktop and in the Start menu.

Common Indicators

Status Display Panels
The Status Display Panels are located above and below the keyboard as shown. Following are some common indicators.
Power Indicator
Shows whether your system is operational
and what mode your notebook is in.
Steady On: You have power to your
notebook and it is ready for use.
Flashing: Notebook is in Standby mode.
Steady Off: System is either in Save-to-Disk
mode, or your notebook has been turned off.
Note: The Power Indicator will remain on even
if your notebook is shut off if, you are charging
your battery or an adapter is connected
(and you shut down using Windows).
Batteries subjected to shocks, vibration or extreme
temperatures can be permanently damaged.
A shorted battery is damaged and must be replaced.
Battery Charge Indicator
Shows the charging status of the battery(ies).
Orange, solid: System battery is charging.
Green, solid: System battery is fully charged.
Orange, blinking: System is waiting to charge
battery (battery is out of thermal range).
Off: AC adapter is not plugged in.
Battery Level Indicators
There are indicators for the primary
battery (Battery 1) and an optional
second battery (Battery 2.)
The Battery Level indicators display the charge

level of the indicated battery pack, as follows:
Green, solid: Battery is between 51% and
100% charged.
Orange, solid: Battery is between 13% and
50% charged.
Red, solid: Battery is 12% or less charged.
Orange, blinking: Blinks during battery status
measurement (Four seconds after the battery
is installed).
Red, blinking: There is a problem with
the battery.
Off: There is no battery installed.
Security Indicator
(If a password was set) fl ashes when the
system resumes from Off or Sleep modes.
You must enter the password that was set
in the Security Panel before your system
will resume operation.
Hard Drive/optical Drive Access
Indicator
Glows green when your internal hard drive
is being accessed--fl ickering is normal.
NumLk Indicator
Shows that the integral keyboard is
set in ten-key numeric keypad mode.
CapsLock Indicator
Shows that your keyboard is set
to type in all capital letters.
ScrLk Indicator
Shows that your scroll lock is active.
Quick Tips
It takes approximately 4 hours to
charge a fully discharged single
battery with unit off or in
suspend mode.
optimizing Battery Life
• Set power management setting
for best Battery Life.
• Adjust display brightness levels
to lowest comfortable setting.
• Remove SD or Express Card
Card when
not needed.
• Utilize Suspend mode when
not using your notebook.
• Read the Power Management
section in your electronic User's
Guide for additional features.
Adjusting Display Brightness
• Fn + F6 to decrease brightness
• Fn + F7 to increase brightness
Adjusting Volume
• Fn + F8 to decrease volume
• Fn + F9 to increase volume
Drivers
Look for the latest drivers on the
Drivers and Applications Restore
CD. Right-click the FDU icon and
select "update", or download
them at us.fujitsu.com/computers.
