This transceiver is d esigned to b e a single-unit
station fo r fixed , p ortable , or mobile opera t ion.
Consequen t ly , power supply connections provid
ing fo

required for ch a nging locations or quick moves
from fi x e d to mobile operation.
BASE STATION IN STALLATION
The FT-902DM is designed for use in many areas
of the world using supply voltages that may differ
from the operator's local supply voltage. For this
reason be sure that the voltage marked on the
'
rear of the transceiver agree s with the local AC
supply
,
v oltage. THIS I N SPECTION MUST BE
MADE BEFORE CONNECTING THE AC POW
ER CORD TO THE POWE R O UTLET.

The tran sceiver should b e connected t o a good
earth groun d . The ground lead should be made
w ith a h e avy braid wire and should be connected
to the GND terminal on t h e rear apron of the
transceiver.
W e do not recomme nd the use o f power con

the power connector.
For base station installation , the only importan t
c o nsideration t h at n ee d b e m a d e i s t o ensure
adequate circulation around the unit . Do n o t place
b ooks or p apers on or around the cabine t , nor
should t h e unit be p laced on top of another
heat-generating d evice such as a linear ampli fier.
Avoid h e at ducts and win d o w lo cations which are
ex posed to the hot sun , a µ d you will keep your
transceiver running at full speed for a long, long
time .
Be certain to ground the transceiver through a
heavy , b raid ed cable less than 1 0 fe et long. Cold
water pipes in newer houses probably are unsatis

special m obile m ounting b racke t is available from
y our d ealer. In m obile installations t h e tra n s
ceiver should be suited away from heater ducts.
N o special precautions need b e observed if ade
quate ventilation spaces is available. A m inimum
o f two inches of air space above the cabinet top
an d on all sides is recomm ended to allo w proper
air flow around the cabinet . Never stack o ther
units above or below the transceiver since the
accumulated heat f r om b oth units could cause
damage .
The transceiver requires an average o f 1 4 amps
on transmit , wi th 20 amps o n voice p e ak s . The
DC power cable comes equipped W i th a 2 0 amp
fuse . When making conn ections to the car battery ,
b e absolu tely certain that t h e RED lead i s con
nected to the positive ( + ) terminal and the BLACK
l e ad i s c onnected to the negative ( - ) terminal .
Reversed connectio n s c ould p e rm an en tly damage
the transceiver.
