16 Spark Arresting Screen in Muffler

► Turn the high speed adjusting screw (H)
slightly clockwise (leaner) – max. up to the
stop
NOTICE
After descending from a high altitude, restore the
carburetor setting to the standard setting.
If you make the setting too lean it will increase
the risk of engine damage through lack of lubri‐
cation and overheating.
16 Spark Arresting Screen in
Muffler
In some countries, the mufflers are fitted with a
spark arresting screen.
WARNING
To reduce the risk of fire caused by hot particles
escaping from the machine, never operate the
machine without a spark arresting screen, or with
the spark arresting screen damaged. Do not
modify the muffler or spark arresting screen.
NOTICE
According to the law or regulations in some
countries or federal states, certain operations
may only be carried out if a properly serviced
spark arresting screen is provided.
► If the engine performance deteriorates, check
the spark arresting screen in the muffler.
WARNING
Wait for the engine to cool down completely
before performing this work.

► Undo screw (1)
► Pull the spark arresting screen (2) upward out
of the muffler
► clean the spark arresting screen if necessary

► If the screen is damaged or heavily carbon‐
ized, fit a new one
► Refit the spark arresting screen in reverse
order of stepsRefit the spark arresting screen
in reverse order of steps

17 Spark Plug

► If the engine is down on power, difficult to start
or runs poorly at idle speed, first check the
spark plug.
► Fit a new spark plug after about 100 operating
hours – or sooner if the electrodes are badly
eroded. Install only suppressed spark plugs of
the type approved by STIHL – see "Specifica‐
tions".

Removing the spark plug
► Switch off the engine – move stop switch to
STOP or 0
► Unscrew screw (1) and remove cap (2) –
screw (1) is secured in the cap (2) to prevent
loss
► Remove the spark plug boot (3).
► Unscrew the spark plug (4).
