Update procedure

Simrad Multifunction Display (MFD) software can be updated using one of the following
methods.
Method 1 "UPDATES LIVE": Connect the MFD to the internet. The MFD will check if any
updates are required for devices on the network. If there is a new version of software avail-
able for MFDs or NMEA 2000 devices on the network, the updates can be downloaded and
updates applied to MFDs or NMEA 2000 devices across the network.
Method 2: Download the update file from the
card. The update is applied by inserting the card in the card reader and turning on the MFD.
(see "Method 2: Start software update by powering on the MFD" on page 12)
Method 3: Start the update by browsing to the update file in the Files menu. (see "Method 3:
Start Update through the Files menu" on page 14)
Software updates require a media card. The type of card depends on the model of MFD
SD card for NSO evo2
¼ Note:
Most media cards will work, but cards larger than 32 GB require NTFS formatting. Refer
to you computers operating system manual how to do this.
¼ Note:
Update files are typically 70-120 MB in size. Data charges could apply if using cellular
access points.
¼ Note:
The update file is MFD model specific. It can be used only for the MFD that it is intend-
ed. The update file name has the MFD model name in it.

Method 1: Updates Live

Updates live is available for MFDs that have built in wireless or there is a WIFI-1 on the
network. The "Updates Live" method is available on compatible MFDs running version 56.1.xx
and above. If your MFD has older software please (see "Method 2: Start software update by
powering on the MFD" on page 12)
Update live works by connecting one MFD to the internet. The MFD will then receive
information on the latest version of software for itself and for other devices connected via the
Ethernet or NMEA 2000 network. It will check this against the current software versions and
alert the user if software is out of date.
If software is out of date, you will be given an option to download software files, which can
then be applied over the network. (Remote Update)
¼ Note:
The MFD connecting to the internet is required to have a Media card inserted.
¼ Note:
To remote upgrade other MFDs, each remote MFD is required to have a Media card
inserted.
¼ Note:
An internet connection is required via a wireless Hotspot or tethered to a phone.
¼ Note:
Only one MFD is required to be connected to the internet to download software for
itself and other devices on the network.
¼ Note:
Some devices may have out of date software, but can not be updated remotely. The
system will direct you to the website for that product.
